Neil is very ill with cancer and it may well be his last Cropredy. "When my time is up I'm going to see all my friends..." Neil has been a great friend of the band for many years and he was allowed out of Swindon hospital to visit the festival. Top man.

That is very sad news Maart, thanks for letting us know.  Our thoughts, I am sure, with the great man and his family

That was a nice touch - thanks for letting us know Maart. I now understand why the reasons weren't given.

Ah that explains it.  :(Knowing he ran the bar for many years, he has a unique place in Cropredy's story. :)

This is sad news indeed.  I for one was very touched by his appearance at the end, but from my position at the front, saw, to my immense dismay, the Tiny Tin Lady girls, all smoking during MOTL while standing right next to him.  'Callow youth' comes to mind.  Our love and thoughts to Neil.

Neil has organised the bar at Cropredy for a long time now. I think he was working at the White Bear in Masham when he was introduced to Fairport....

I've just read Simon's obituary on the Fairport homepage.
I hadn't realised who Neil was. I saw him on stage at Cropredy in 2005.

RIP Neil. :'(

Yes, an excellent obituary from Simon, which really sums up the man that Neil was. Thank you Simon.
Those unofficial Fairport gigs in the Town Hall were something special.

And the nights in the pub; not just Fairport, but Lindisfarne, Gordon Giltrap and a host of others. And an audience, much like Cropredy, that spanned the generations. Lunch times too, were special, with Neil's amazing cooking. But the thing I will always remember is the warm welcome and wonderful wit that was the White Bear in Neil's day. I consider myself privileged to have known him.

Listening in the car today to AT2/The Boot, cd number 2, track 2. Probably a track most of us skip as it is all chat, but it contains a lengthy interview with Neil Cutts. In 1982, a man at the height of his profession and powers.

Rest in peace Neil, another top chap gone, I lift my glass of Laphroaig to you

Over There in Paradise by Steve Ashley says it all, let's get Steve to sing it at his birthday bash.

Cheers - Ed

Neil's funeral, which took place last Friday, received extensive coverage in our local paper, the Ripon Gazette, today. I've scanned the cuttings and they are available <A HREF="http://www.ashford.demon.co.uk/robin/Neil_Cutts/Neil_Cutts.htm">here</A>. I'm a bit short of web space, but will try to leave them up for a couple of weeks.

They should be fine, but one is quite big (1.5Mb) as the text wasn't readable at lower resolution. Give it time to download. I've just done a refreash and it loaded OK for me.

Speleologist has now provided 300 dpi (big) and 600 dpi (huge) scans of the cuttings, making the text much easier to read. I've tagged links to these on to the tail end of http://www.stade.co.uk/aw/interests/music/folk-rock/fairport/cropredy/Neil_Cutts/Neil_Cutts.htm (http://www.stade.co.uk/aw/interests/music/folk-rock/fairport/cropredy/Neil_Cutts/Neil_Cutts.htm).

Greets to all from a Connecticut Yankee & newbie in Japan .

Back in 1982 , I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Neil Cutts at the White Bear in Masham . My buddy and  I were in the midst of a two week pub crawl through Cumbria and North Yorkshire when we zoomed into Masham in our Ford Fiesta . Our impetus for visiting Masham was to do a tour of the Theakston Brewery , which we did , but that is another story . Anyway , after the Theakston tour , all of the tour members were taken to the White Bear for a meal courtesy of Theakston , and this was when I first met Neil , briefly . My friend and I decided to stay in Masham for the next two nights ( Kings Head ) , and we ended up spending quite a bit of time at the White Bear ...hehe...Neil was a jovial & quite interesting fellow and since he , my friend and I were all huge Fairport Convention fans , much of our conversation centered around FC and music in general . Neil was kind enough to present us with cassettes of AT2 , and also suggested we quaff a very special drink called " The Executioner "  , which he explained was a favored drink amongst the locals and consisted of 50% hard cider and 50% Old Peculier . Being a tad naive ( ha ? ) , and having gone to N. Yorks with the " when in Rome " spirit in our souls , we imbibed ...I shall never , ever forget my friend Dick waking the entire hotel in the middle of the night , sick as a dog . In the morning in the dining room , somehow , all the other guests instinctively ( ? ) knew that one of us was the midnight culprit . Perhaps it was my friend ordering a coca cola and declining the full English breakfast that gave us away ?  :o
