Title: A painting of cropredy
Post by: Sian on September 15, 2005, 11:37:37 PM
I was browsing the web a few weeks ago and came across a beautiful painting of Cropredy, entitled "Festival banners" or something like that.

The artist was Elfie???

I had had a few glasses of wine that evening and I cannot remember the details and now cannot find it again on the web.

Does anyone out there know of the Artist or the painting.  It costs about £200.00!!!!!  (that bit I do recall ;D)

Thanks

Sian

Wasn't the artist stood at the end of the bar on the Friday evening painting that? A stall selling paintings of simmilar scenes might go well at Cropredy (refering to another thred re; stalls). I like the ones Puggs has posted a lot.

Ahh, that's one of my paintings! It was based on a number of photos I took on the Friday evening of Cropredy 2004. For reference, the stage is away to the left, and I was standing just behind and to the side of the B*ll*cks Crowd. The painting's in good company at the moment since it's currently hanging alongside one of Peggy's old acoustic basses in our house!

I was intending to paint for a theme of "Landscape With Sky", and when I saw the wonderful sunset over Cropredy I decided to work on that one as soon as I got home. I did a lot of reference work of the stalls, people and banners, and I've got a few more pieces to paint from that weekend. Maybe I'll try and get a stall going in 2006 - there's worse places to work than next to the bar at Cropredy! (No it wasn't me in 2004/5)

Not sure how you found the picture - I can never find anything of mine on Google unless I search under 'Aelf'! I only found this thread because someone I know saw it and wondered if it was my painting. I did search under "Picture Cropredy", and it looks like someone else thought the sunset was inspirational: http://www.folking.com/photo/ !

I'm glad you like the painting, Sian!

Hello Aelf

The painting is lovely.  I would love to see more of the Cropredy paintings when they are finished!

Lovely painting  :)

Do you do commissions ?  You could have a ready made market here with the August in Oxfordshire sentimentalists among us  ::)

Aelf, if I had £200 that's what I'd spend it on! It's beautiful. There's definately a market for these. Perhaps prints could be produced more cheaply and appeal to a wider market? of skint people like me?!

Anyway, keep up the exceptional work.  :)

Good idea Jono, I'd be up for a (less money) painting of Cropredy. A stall would be great Aelf hope you can get that organised. I second the welcome aboard and have a question. How do you paint, dance and drink at the same time? Even the  [;-) [;-) [;-) struggle with that one!

Thanks for the lovely welcome.  :)

I'm glad people like the painting.
I've been thinking of doing some paintings to get made into prints, as I can appreciate not everyone can purchase original paintings. Just saving up the initial funds for the job at the mo! Once I've finished the paintings I'm working on for my local art group's exhibition, I'll most certainly go back to my Cropredy notes and work on some paintings for prints.

How do I paint, dance and drink? Well, that's secret elf magic!  ;)  Actually, I tend to take a small sketch book around with me, and I had my camera at the time. I've learnt to sketch very quickly! (And in the dark!) I'll then work on the actual painting in my studio.  I like to create the atmosphere and feelings into the paintings. Sometimes it can take quite a few prep drawings and maybe a few attempts to get to the final piece I can be satisfied with.

My fish!!! Immortalised at last!!  ;D
We never show on any of the photos, (probably because they are high enough to be well out of sight lines), but a true artist appreciates us!!
Aelf, lovely picture - really gets the flavour of a magical Cropers evening, I have photos virtually identical, but not half as evocative.
