I came across a cassette in the loft the other day (remember cassettes?).  It's a home recording off the radio, of Fairports live at Nottingham University - a gig I still remember (it was broadcast a couple of days later).  Line-up is Sandy, Swarb, Jerry Donahue, Peggy and Dave Mattacks, around the time of the release of Rising for the Moon.  It includes Tam Lin, One More Chance, some great instrumental reels and an amazing 20 minute version of Sloth.  Also 2 or 3 songs with Jerry on lead - not sure they were such a good idea in the set!

I've no idea what I could do with it, apart from just keep it for personal pleasure.  The quality isn't fantastic but it's not bad (it's as tolerable as Sandy's live Gold Dust CD).  But I imagine it's a pretty rare thing.  Any thoughts?

if youve got the gear get on disc asap ,a tape that age could self destruct in 5 seconds and then it would be mission impossible to hear it again
or use it as a bartering tool if you  get my drift

I am quite sure you gentlemen will be mindful of the 'code of conduct'  regarding bootlegs or other unauthorised recordings. Otherwise Samantha may need to be contacted with view to nailing your ears to the bog door

Not really!

If you need help transfering it to cdr, let me know.  I hope the band releases more archive materia, both on cd and on DVDl. Sort of like the King Crimson's collectors series. That way I can get my archival concerts and the band can get my money. But I do not feel bad in any way shape or form for collecting archival concerts. You call em bootlegs, I call em historical artifacts. If it was played in public, it was for public consumption. Unreleased demos are another thing. Maart brought up the differnse in a previous thread. But if it was played live and played on the radio, it is ment to be heard. I would love that version of Tam Lin, Sloth, etc.  My two cents.

He may well do - an sabbatical or not, he will be able to give an FC view of the topic and I would be interested to hear it from the 'horses mouth' - then I can wind my neck in if needs-be  ;D

Wow... thanks for the suggestions!  Well, it's made it onto minidisc, to avoid the self-destruct problem.  Think I'll just quietly listen to it and imagine I'm 20 all over again.  Swarb at his very best.  Nottingham was a great Uny for gigs back in the 70s.  Sandy once appeared there, headlining, with Hookfoot in support. (Anyone remember Hookfoot?)  Happy days.

I also would be interested the FC view on boots...and if they plan on releasing old archival footage or sounds. The footage on it all comes around just wets my appetite. Especially the nine era line up. But I am a fan of all eras.   They must have enough for a bunch of dvds and many many cds.  Has FC thought about a collectors club type thing?  Do you/they  think I am evil for collecting "historical archival recordings" ?

Am I wrong in thinking that (and am I the only one who thinks that) Trevor Lucas would've been in this lineup, and that maybe it is he, not Jerry doing the lead vocals that Martin seems not to care for, or is it just obvious to everyone else and so it goes unmentioned?

Well I had assumed that Trevor had just been missed out by mistake but I WAS trying to work out how Jerry's lead guitar playing would be criticised...

If it was 1975 then I remember it well - it was the first time I had heard of FC. The concert was held in the Sports Hall and the acoustics were dreadfull. I don't remember the gig being broadcast on the radio though. They visited Nottingham Uni again in '76 (or was it '77?) when Simon had just re-joined.
