Title: Obscure FC-related RIP - George D Painter Post by: Chris on January 01, 2006, 09:36:13 PM I don't think this was noted last year - the author of The
Lobster lyric on Fairport's first album, George D Painter, died on December 8th, 2005. A noted Proust scholar, librarians on the list will also be interested in his role as an incunabulist at the British Museum Dept. of Printed Books (now the British Library). http://news.independent.co.uk/people/obituaries/article334438.ece (http://news.independent.co.uk/people/obituaries/article334438.ece) (full text of obituary does not seem to be free at this website, unfortunately.) Can anyone - Judy maybe - shed any light upon the making of "The Lobster"? Patrick Humphries just states that " The Lobster has a tune by Ashley and Richard, the words coming from a poem by George Painter"
Was he renowned for his poetry? Just curious, thatīs all! ;) Staffan Title: Re: Obscure FC-related RIP - George D Painter Post by: Jack O Diamonds on January 01, 2006, 11:29:32 PM "The World was 'is Lobster" (A Daley 1987 and passim)

I played the electric autoharp on it so somewhere along the line the limitations of that instrument must have been taken into consideration. It's a curiously satisfying song to listen to again. I'd forgotten I played recorder on it as well....
