Most of the tour clashes with my holiday in Scotland this year, so unless the chaps suddenly decide to make a detour to the Highlands in the middle of the tour, that'll be the only one I get to this time around.

Not at all GF; you should spend the afternoon in Cambridge city centre, have a look around the world famous Colleges, don't forget people come from across the globe just to see what you will see. Then have something to eat in the great noodle bar which is located just round the corner from the Mill pub on the river- 10 minutes walk from the the Corn Exchange, followed by a couple of pints in the Eagle, a world famous and very atmospheric pub just spitting distance from the Corn Exchange. I saw the chaps at that venue last year-it's small enough to be intimate but also very comfortable with a choice of sitting upstairs or standing downstairs near the stage. Look,in Norwich this morning I met a truck driver from Cross Hands, (small village in South Wales for the non-Welsh)  who had thought of nothing of driving 6 hours to get here this morning to deliver something or other and was on his way back via Bristol.Cambridge is not as far. Be adventerous and enjoy it!

I know I'm fairly local, but I only seem to go to Cambridge for gigs and work, so don't know any good places to meet up ::)

I'd suggest the "Eagle" pub, just across the road from Kings College and 5 minutes walk from the Corn Exchange. Very historic and atmospheric pub. Good beer. Very touristy in the afternoon, but full of students and academics, mulling over dissertations, etc. in the evening. Lots of historical connections with various important research work, as well as US airforce connections from WW2. Interesting nooks and crannies. I may be there, as although resident in Norwich ,work halfway between Norwich and Cambridge, so may nip down that evening.

I've been horribly excessive and seen the show three times already.  However,  I'm not seeing Fairport again until 5 March and I really don't think I can last that long.  I am now tempted by Northampton (or would be if I knew how to get there and whether I can afford a ticket and if there are any tickets left and how annoyed people will be if I go again and so on and so on...)

Suzanne, I went to Northampton couple of weeks ago to see Richard Thompson; briefly met Nuthouse at the venue itself. The Deco Theatre is a small, atmospheric and fairly intimate place- with a nice bar area-order any interval drinks before hand or you have to wait ages-great for people like RT and FC. Good views of stage, at least there was from where I sat. Also followed Nuthouse's recommendation and had a pre-gig pint or two in the Malt Shovel pub, which was great - great friendly atmosphere, good beer, although the Heineken brewery across the road, while an easy landmark, does make it feel like a not too nice partof town, all industrial, etc. The venue is a 15 minute or so walk from there, but make sure you have good directions if you don't know the town. Know what you mean about "people getting annoyed". If I ever get divorced, I think Fairport might be cited in the petition!  Northampton seems to have good road links from most places in the country especially Oxfordshire way, and safe parking in the multi-stories in the town centre was cheap, as long as you were there after 5.00pm. I think it was fairly cheap before that time as well.Get your ticket now, as the Folk Britannia/Radio 2 Awards seem to be attracting a lot of interest in the band  from the younger Fairport and Cropredy "virgins." All-in-all, yes, just go-you only live once!

I'm going to be good and not go to Northampton.  It's just being greedy otherwise and, to be honest, I can't afford it (got a new car coming this month that needs insuring for a start!).  Hope that those of you that do go have a great time.

 I last saw them live in 1979 in  London.  Although I am seeing RT on 6 march 2006.
I would love some feedback of the live shows you lucky people see as the most we have are our Fairport Nights at friends homes with a big screen and old videos

I've managed to persuade my parents to get tickets for Worthing (Can't go myself) They've been toying with the idea for a while but Mum was worried about not fitting in, being too old, that sort of thing! So, if you see a couple of people who don't fit in with the crowd and look too old.....  ;)

At Cropredy in 2004 we were sitting near a chap on his own who must have been well into his 70's and he seemed to fit perfectly.

I suggest that we all meet in the Far From The Madding Crowd which is just around the corner from the Playhouse. Modern pub but with a good range of real ales and wines. One of my 'locals'. Either of those venues suits me Sandy.  Some of those student pubs in St Giles are too small and horrible.

If there's a meet, then it needs to be somewhere that is big-enough to accommodate us but isn't far too noisy so that people can't chat.  My comments were based on the fact that some of those pubs in St Giles are really small and loud; some of them are also damn hard to find (it's been a long time since I ventured into an Oxford pub).

Well its real name is the Eagle and Child, but its nickname is.....

I did consider the Bird and Baby but it is a lot less convenient for those not coming from the north, it is difficult to get a group table as it is really just a corridor until you get to the conservatory and, most importantly, it now very much concentrates on its food trade and this has completely changed the atmosphere (and is why we stopped using it as our local).

We could try the Lamb and Flag, but this too is less convenient for those not coming form the north; the Kings Arms, but that will probably be heaving with students; the Turf, where we could sit outside roasting nuts in the braziers, but would anyone find it without radar; any of the drinking emporiums in George Street or the Parrot in Gloucester Green, but bring your own knuckle dusters and a taste for very cold lager; the Old School House, but only if you are accompanied by an under 16 year old, or the Gloucester Arms, but you must practice your headbanging first.  ;D ;D ;D

The alternative is all round to mine for a cup of tea :o

That is why I plumped for the FFTMC, but I am happy to go elsewhere if that is the concensus. What do you think?

Now I'm completely befuddled, why do peeps have to complicate matters. Sandy, your first suggestion of FFTMC sounds fine to me, I'm happy to rely on your local knowledge of all things Oxford.  FFTMC is fairly adjacent to the Playhouse theatre and according to (multi map) there is also a car park just around the corner.

Pardon my intrusion, as I am not going to Oxford, but in view of the connection between FC and the film of FFTMC, you should go with the vibes, people. :)

Indeed it is and there is - but a word of warning....doesn't it shut at around 11pm?....OK if you're legging it straight aftyer the gig, but not if you're going to hang about afterwards. Sandra may correct me, but I'm sure that is / was the case.

It does indeed close at 10.30pm, as do most of the pubs in Oxford on a Sunday.

The Playhouse bar stays open until 11.00pm though.

If there is any interest I will try to find one that stays open later for the stay behinds.

Are you talking about the car park? That does close about 11.00pm, if not before.

Personally I would park in St Giles, as near to Beaumont Street as possible.

However, you should find that omn-street parking in Oxford is free after 6.30ish, so Sandra's suggestion is a good one.

Go on you lot in Oxford, be brave and trot along to the Gloucester Arms, just make sure to take your ear plugs as Oxford's very own biker pub does tend to also have a really loud juke box. Good beer though.

Cannock was excellent, apart from the drunk near the front. Loved the new arrangements particularly Tam Lin, and Matty back to the old format. I also like the addition of a bit more electric guitar. One thing about Fairport is that they never disappoint, you are only ever arguing about a few percentage points!

Yes, the little cymbal took another bashing at Oxford. I never realised they were so tough.

It was, as expected, another great night (but don't mention the A34). Many familiar faces, but awefully hard to meet people / move. Quite a tiny foyer.  Though the slaves of Nic O'tine met up as usual.
