Title: From the Archives! Post by: Edthefolkie on May 23, 2006, 08:59:13 PM Just found this in an ancient scrapbook - came out of the Melody Maker, if anybody remembers that august organ.
There are more if any of you find this one educational ;D Cheers - Ed [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: Edthefolkie on May 23, 2006, 09:36:33 PM Well once you start scanning it's hard to stop...
One is a flyer which I picked up at a Fairport gig not that far from Farnsfield in mid 1979, and the other is a cover of a defunct organ called Beat Instrumental - April 1971 issue. Fab gear eh? (especially Swarb's coat) Cheers -Ed [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: Chris on May 23, 2006, 09:43:11 PM Keep 'em coming Ed!.....Fascinating....
Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: Suzanne on May 23, 2006, 10:05:37 PM Those are amazing Ed. ;D How many of these hidden gems exist and other "situations vacant" style adverts?
Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: Pugwash on May 23, 2006, 10:15:45 PM So then Ed were you at the concert at Thoresby... summer 1979?
Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: Paul on May 23, 2006, 10:26:34 PM I used to subscribe to Beat Instrumental when I was a kid. Don't think I went back that far though.
Paul Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: tony the roundhead on May 23, 2006, 10:59:29 PM I also used to buy "Beat International" too. Much more readable than the alternative "International Musician". Most of the copies I still have somewhere date from mid to late 70's but I do have a '68 copy featuring Cream.

Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: David W on May 30, 2006, 02:19:06 PM All this talk about still being ab;le to wear things from the FC archive has got me wondering if anyone out there has got, and can still get into a pair of the FC scanty panties which were sold sometime in the early 1980s?
Jackdaw (a simple yes will suffice on NO account post photographic evidence) Title: Re: From the Archives! I recognise everyone else..... :-[ Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: Barry on May 30, 2006, 02:44:52 PM Iain Matthews .... later had a number one with Matthews' Southern Comfort's version of Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock".
Well worth checking out any of his solo or post-Fairport work. I'm particularly fond of the "No Grey Faith" album of Sandy covers. Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: Jack O Diamonds on May 30, 2006, 03:35:39 PM Agree with Barry re-Iain Matthews.... he was really good with FC, setting his vocals against first Jude (who looks soooooooooooo cool on this clip!) then Sandy. Check out his back catalogue.... some fine stuff... One other point... what a fine drummer Martin was!

Post by: KeithP on June 02, 2006, 05:03:22 PM Does anyone remember Fairport's ads in the Club Calendar section of Melody Maker in May 1967? Obviously not a busy time for the lads: Friday: Fairport Convention stays at home tonight. Saturday: Fairport Convention stays home again patiently awaiting bookings. Sunday: Fairport Convention gives up hope, goes to Highgate Odeon. Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: Edthefolkie on July 24, 2006, 11:59:36 AM Sorry I haven't done any for ages, me old USB hub got zapped. :-[ Here are some more bits and bobs - biased towards Swarb as we all hope to see Lazarus at Croppers. I like Swarb's suit - also the superb backwards "N" in the Lloyd's Weekly News cover. The "Heat" or "Take a Break" of its day methinks. Cheers - Ed

A bunch of us went up to a wedding in Newcastle that w/e, had a few swift halves afterwards, staggered back to our hotel and then watched the programme on their telly (no vids then). A party of Geordies arrived...."what - not watching the football lads?" "Errr no, we're a bit strange you see". (No change there then). We went doon to the Tyne the next day and lo and behold, the Killingworth Morris Men did a superb set on the Quayside. Howay the bonny lads! ;D Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: Tasha on July 25, 2006, 02:09:17 PM Thanks for these- always good to read old articles. ;D

Cracking photo of Bruce and friend. Here's the story from the Banbury Guardian: (I bet Mr Gary English, 31, has a cracking time in the bedroom..... ;)) (http://www.alexlyons.co.uk/atrax/swarb_archive/naked_image/Naked%20Image%2082%201000.jpg) Title: Re: From the Archives! Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: Simon Withers on August 29, 2006, 09:31:48 AM Thanks for letting me have the opportunity to see and read the clipping of Bruce Lacy at Cropredy 1982. AT2 was my first Cropredy and I remember not sitting too far away from Bruce's performance. Bring back Bruce for the big 40 bash next year.

Title: Re: From the Archives! Post by: Andy on August 29, 2006, 10:51:28 AM he was there for the 35th.....is he still alive? The Tate think so, they give his dates as 1927- . Hmm.
