Title: Pick of the FC Pops ? Post by: greglin (Gregg) on June 14, 2006, 05:17:36 PM Have been going through my Cropredy Capers and other FC live CDs this last week - also revisiting the FC back catalogue.
Made me think...............in the light of the "covers with guests" CD in the Capers box, 1) What non - traditional song would you like to see FC cover? 2) What folk / traditional song not already recorded by FC would you like to see them do? 3) What recorded FC song - not already on a live CD - would you like to see played live / released on a "live" set? One song only for each please..................... I had to give this one a bit of thought, but my considered answers............ 1) All Along The Watchtower 2) The Parting Glass 3) Run Johnny Run Now my brain hurts - time for the Arms............................. Post by: Shane (Skirky) on June 14, 2006, 11:05:57 PM 1 - Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day - I reckon that Simon Nicol would do a great version, and there's acres of room for duelling fiddles in the middle bit
2 - Does The Angels Took My Racehorse Away count as a folk song? 3 - Blimey - are there any left? Oh, go on then, Shuffle The Pack, updated. Title: Re: Pick of the FC Pops ? Post by: Mr Cat (Lewis) on June 15, 2006, 01:29:16 AM 1). "Throw Down the Sword" from Argus by Wishbone Ash, with Ric and Chris replicating the guitar lines on the fiddle
2). "Poor Murdered Woman" from the "No Roses" album 3). "Wounded Whale" if it isn't one of the many Woodworm era live CDs.. Title: Re: Pick of the FC Pops ? Post by: Nick on June 16, 2006, 09:49:58 AM 1) What non - traditional song would you like to see FC cover? It has to be something wordy - strong lyrics and a storyline. I'd go for something Peter Gabriel-y or early Genesis. Someone mentioned Carpet Crawlers in another thread. I can imagine Simon singing that, or Games Without Frontiers. Iain Matthews does a great cover of Mercy Street by the way... 2) What folk / traditional song not already recorded by FC would you like to see them do? 10,000 Miles. Partly because several contemporary people have done it (Jim Moray, June Tabor, Eliza twice) and it's been different each time. I think Fairport's would be different again. 3) What recorded FC song - not already on a live CD - would you like to see played live / released on a "live" set? I get the feeling they've all been played live and exist on some recording or other. I don't think I've heard Nottamun Town live though, so can I have that? Cheers Nick Title: Re: Pick of the FC Pops ? Post by: Tasha on June 16, 2006, 10:40:59 AM I get the feeling they've all been played live and exist on some recording or other. Title: Re: Pick of the FC Pops ? Post by: greglin (Gregg) on June 16, 2006, 01:15:16 PM 1). "Throw Down the Sword" from Argus by Wishbone Ash, with Ric and Chris replicating the guitar lines on the fiddle Now you've mentioned it - what an inspired choice that is. Title: Re: Pick of the FC Pops ? Post by: Paul on June 16, 2006, 02:35:02 PM all of it on the babbacombe lee tour of 71/72 I was still in short trousers then. Paul Title: Re: Pick of the FC Pops ? Paul And they did it again for the Friday night of Cropredy 1981....and did a remarkably good job of it actually, one or two minor slip-ups but other than that, not bad at all. Title: Re: Pick of the FC Pops ? Post by: PLW (Peter) on June 16, 2006, 06:09:20 PM Back to the topic:
1. Love on a Farmboy's Wages - by XTC 2. Lord Bateman - in as dramatic arrangement as possible 3. Autopsy with Chris While on vocals ( a fantasy choice I fear) Title: Re: Pick of the FC Pops ? Post by: Tasha on June 22, 2006, 12:05:30 PM What about "i've just seen a face" by the Beatles
I've just seen a face, I can't forget the time or place That we'd just met, she's just the girl for me And I want all the world to see we've met Na na na na na na Had it been another day I might have looked the other way But I had never been aware And as it is I dream of her tonight Na na na na na na CHORUS: Falling, yes I am falling And she keeps calling me back again ;D Title: Re: Pick of the FC Pops ?
