Title: Swarbrick & Carthy (no, not them, relations!) Post by: Chris on July 24, 2006, 11:14:11 PM Wednesday 26th July at Llangollen Town Hall
Carthy Swarbrick have passed into folk legend and the next generation is now upon us. Eliza Carthy has more than followed in her parents' footsteps and now comes Simon Swarbrick with the Band of Jays, which features amongst others Lucy Watkins and, recently returned from touring with Norah Jones no less, Robbie McIntosh, who has played, recorded and toured extensively with Paul McCartney. Band of Jays demonstrate a unique approach to folk music, drawing for their material on traditional British folk songs that have "emigrated" to the New World, where they have found fascinating adaptation and development, while Simon's fretwork takes between-lyric instrumentals to all corners of the world and back again. The Fringe is delighted to be presenting this band in its debut days. A long life and reputation is forecast. Post by: PLW (Peter) on July 25, 2006, 11:28:45 AM Didn't Simon Swarbrick perform at Cropredy a few years ago? Or had I drunk too much 6X?

Which made him at least the third second generation Fairporter to appear with a band on the Cropredt stage as a musician, (rather than a dancer sorry Sam Leslie) Jackdaw Title: Re: Swarbrick & Carthy (no, not them, relations!) Post by: PaulT on July 25, 2006, 05:39:48 PM Talking of Swarb, family & fiddlers... did anyone ever spot a slight resemblance to Swarb in Bobby Valentino - the guy who used to play fiddle with (I think) Hank Wangford. I think he also played fiddle on "Young at Heart" by the Bluebells.

Post by: Angela on July 25, 2006, 10:38:25 PM Bobby Valintino used to play with the Fabulous Poodles ( or the Fab Poo's) during the late 70's early 80's, saw them many times in the pubs around Deptford. I've also seen him in the Jools Holland orchestra. Never thought he looked like Swarb though.
