At the moment I've decided I'm never camping again, ever, whatever the time of year.... but I suspect I'll weaken when the festival season rolls round again ::)

I have to confess I would not attempt it in a tent.

Its ok in the van though, with the electric radiator and the thermal blinds. Warm as toast it be.

It is open all year - but only the hardy would attempt it in late November - we had snow at that time last year!
But he takes campervans - there are electric hook-ups, etc....

all you need is electric hookup and a fan heater! ;D ;D

And I thought people on this site were dedicated!

Can't be any wetter than any Cropredy I've been to unless ofcourse Richard Thompson's on the bill then well we could or perhaps should expect icestorms, blizzards, hurricanes........

I wonder if this could all get out of hand.

You want to try sleeping three blokes to a car in a Welsh forest during the RAC rally inearly Novemer. It gets so , er warm, you have to open the windows.

Should be an atmospheric gig though.

Tickets are also available direct by personal collection only from the Green Scene coffee shop & studio by The Plantation in Cropredy. Opening hours are 10.30am - 5pm, Tuesday - Saturday. Cheques & cash only.

Tickets are £15 each, unreserved church pews, limited to 200.
Bar at 6.45pm, doors at 7pm, gig at 7.30pm

I phoned this morning and requested 4 tickets.  The very nice lady will be sending them to me once she has recieved my cheque and SAE.

This time next week we shall probably be stuck on that M25 car park on our way to the Cropredy bells bash and I was thinking maybe we could all get together for a pre gig drink or two ;)
I think Boatboy suggested the Red lion, and I've checked on their website that they are open after their re-furbishment, and they re-opened last night.  So where's it to be, The Red Lion or the Braesnose?  And how many of us are going? For a start there's me and the boy's, we hope to be at our B&B at about 4pm after a bit of retail therapy in Banbury. ;D ;D

The church rooms will be open as well, there are more toilets in there.
A bar is been organised in the building at the end of Church Lane
The port a loos will be 10 yds from this bar, and the church rooms a further 20 yds.
A mere doddle for true Fairport fans used to hyking up the hill?

Good job nobody is camping , I have just been out across the fields for a paddle with our dogs, the Cherwell burst its banks yesterday.

Looking forward to the new bells , apparentely they are been cast in Whitechapel later this week, once the full compliment are up there we will have to stop calling the bell ringers" the clangers"

I didn't have my camera when I was down that way yesterday - but field 4 is under at least two feet of water....

Will start posting such pictures though, this morning was really good, the concert field was white over with frost, the cows are back, and their breath looked like they were dragons.
Aprox fifty Canadian Geese landed in the top field by the river, late this evening, along with hundreds of gulls

The red lion has been closed all week , for re-decoration, the lady who sells her pictures in the pub , has done the murals, frilly knickers and suspenders seem to be the theme.

Looking forward to next weekend, from soggy Cropredy, bon nuit.

             I am fortunate to live in a house in Church lane, you could have at one time, have got your daily bread here.
All Fairport people ae welcome at my house, and in cropredy, you are all as much a part of this village as those fortunate enough to reside here.
If you knock on the door it will open, the collie dog will lick you , the patterdale may rip your leg off.
I will welcome you , as does Cropredy.
We will all meet on the ledge.

just had to say that lived right near to the bell foundry in whitechapel for 6 years. Used to walk past it every day. The Whitechapel Bell Foundry is  Britain's oldest manufacturing company, having been established in 1570 (during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I) and being in continuous business since that date :o

Just heard from Angela that it was a brilliant night.. can't wait for a full report or three!!

We have just returned home from the concert, it was difficult travelling all the 50 yds home.
The church was a wonderfull setting, and the set they performed did it justice.

The, FAIRPORT CONVENTION FESTIVAL BELL is cooling down in Whitechapel.
I feel this is a fitting way to honour the band by Cropredy.
They are cast in bronze , to play tunes for hundreds of years in Cropredy.

They demonstrated how this is best performed, thank you.
Unfortunately the Red Lion was closed for a private Do.

It will be open though when Lazarus are here on the 10th of Dec, in the village hall,

It was closed....I thought so.

I think this  shall be the most memorable Fairport concert that I will have ever been to, t'was truely surreal to see the chaps performing in such a beautifull little church whilst being able to sup a pint of Hookie.  A fantastic set, a little different to the one we saw a couple of weeks ago, but the sound was so rich.

It bought a lump to my throat to hear Simon explain how the band felt so proud to be part of this performance to help fund the casting of the Fairport festival bell which would still be there in hundreds of years time with the Fairport name on it.  I felt proud to be in the audience, knowing that my children would be able to go back to Cropredy when they are older and us lot long gone, and tell the story of how they were there for that fund raising concert. Though of course we are all part of this history by attending the festivals.

The atmosphere was warm and cosy with lots of jokes and much fun.  Jack fell asleep as usual, but as Simon said, at least he caught 70% of the show this time! ;D  It was great to meet up with Diane, I would have loved to have talked to Jude but every time I looked she was always busy talking to someone ;D Was good to meet Martin who got the boys involved with helping the chaps pack up their gear, Jack very proudly carried Gerry's rainstick out to his car. Thankfully Martin gave us a lift back to our B&B at Williamscote, if he hadn't I don't know how we'd have got back as the road was extremeley flooded.

This morning we took a walk around the village, some of the flooding had sub-sided but field 4 looks more like a swimming pool than a field.  i took some photos which I shall try to put up later. :)

It was a really lovely concert wasn't it? ;D

I am sorry to have missed speaking to people, but it was pretty crowded wasn't it?

It was a really special evening - quite surreal at times - and had some moments that will stick in my mind for a long time. As Ric and Simon finished playing 'Summertime' the bell/clock rang for 10.00pm. excellent timing. Seeing the chaps playing framed by the beautiful stonework was amazing. Gerry's percussion was sensitive and perfect for the evening.  The atmosphere was good too and gave an intimate feel to the gig.The sound was excellent from where I was sitting - very rich - and it felt like I was surrounded in sound.

It's quite amazing to think that the bell - which was cast on Friday - could be there, as Simon said, in 300 years commemorating the band and the festival. There's not many artistes that can top that! A memorable concert for so many reasons and I am proud to have been there.

It was good to see Jude there..........didn't get to say 'hello' though ...and Angela, Dennis and Jack and Martin too :)

I was a bit shocked by the flood that had appeared the other side of the bridge during the evening. Angela et al, hope you got back with dry feet - I daren't turn round and come back for you as the car only just made it through once :o

Angela and Delfini have summed up this very special evening perfectly, it was a wonderfully joyous event enjoyed by all those lucky enough to be present.
Angela said it brought a lump to her throat when Simon was talking about the bell, Simon himself appeared visible moved as the realization seemed to sink in as to the enormity of the honour that the Cropredy community and St. Mary's church has bestowed on Fairport Convention. To think that the Fairport Festival bell will still be be ringing out over Cropredy village and it's surrounding fields in 300 years time.

It was lovely to meet up with Jude and Boatboy in the Brasenose before the gig, Jude almost skipped into the pub such has been her speedy recovery.

 ;D ;D I wasn't quite so 'skippingy' after sitting on the chairs later though!  ;D

But it was the only usual church pew/ moulded chair effect, glad I took a cushion ;D

The more I think about it,  the more special the evening becomes. The 'enormity of the honour'  as Martin says is amazing.

Another moment.........Chris singing out on the start of 'I'm already there' , the sound was  good anyway, but that bit just sent a shiver down my spine.

And yes, Mr Pegg was there, sounding and looking great.  ;D

I think the word surreal , does actually capture some of the evening.
There was an almost over politeness from everyone, the applause was warm , but stopped instantly, each time .
The sound was stunning , not just good, and they absolutely nailed the right playlist.
It wasn't a thumping folk rock night, very reserved , and above all the musicians reigned supreme.
They have laid down a standerd for the clangers to follow, and as someone who lives almost under the bell tower, I am pleased about that, though in the bellringers defense, they have been handicapped because of the missing bells.

We too were priveleged to be a small part of a very special occasion. Possibly because of the location, it was quite unlike any Fairport gig we've been to before. Many thanks to the chaps for some wonderfully atmospheric music and to Brenda and her team for making us welcome.

Ric's timing  to include the clock striking as Summertime finished has already been mentioned - a word though for Chris who entered into the spirit by including the Cropredy bells in the lyric of Walk Awhile and working a beautiful mandolin peal of bells into MOTL.

I overheard someone  saying that the concert was being filmed and that the video would be sold to raise further funds. There was a video camera on a tripod at the the rear of the church by the bell ropes. Does anyone have any further information on this?

I REALLY hope this is right...  I'd love a copy!!

Not being a photographer I'll leave it others to comment properly but  I would have thought that a single camera at the back of the church with the lighting as it looks in the photos above would struggle to capture reasonable quality of video.  :'(

Oh dammit, wish I had been there too....just sloth on my part really (not the one on Full House) - and I was on call (not that it's stopped me before).

I agree that it's absolutely marvellous that Fairport's name is on the bell, and will be for hundreds of years. It sums up everything the band,  the festival AND the audience is about. And thanks for posting the lovely photos.

Oh well, at least I saw Peggy the night before with the Dylans in Leicester - and did they rock? Not arf! 2-3 encores and the gallery nearly demolished by foot stamping. Anybody else there? Ed
