Title: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Simon Nicol on October 04, 2006, 10:10:17 AM I received this by email this morning and was unable to source the material. I'm sure one or more of you can come up with the goods for this guy's sister - and I know you'll all empathise with her. If you can help, IM me and I'll put you in touch with him.
I found a clip of a gig from Maidstone 1970 on youtube, and I remember seeing the film (can't remember what it was called) many years ago in a cinema. During the film the camera pans around the audience and captures my sister and her boyfriend on their first date sitting under a tree. My sister has never seen the film. Fast forward to 2006. My brother-in-law (they married in 1972) passed away on 12th August, and yesterday would have been their 34th anniversary. I would love to get hold of a copy of the film for my sister. Can you help? Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: David W on October 04, 2006, 10:37:16 AM Wasn't the Maidstone clip used on the It All Comes Round Again video from a few years back, its the one with the helicopters isn't it?
Jackdaw Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Goaty on October 04, 2006, 10:41:37 AM its the one with the helicopters isn't it? Narrated by John Peel ? If so I've a copy on video. Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Andy on October 04, 2006, 10:47:26 AM Clips from "the helicopter event" were also featured in Part 1 (I think) of Folk Britannia.
Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Simon Nicol on October 04, 2006, 12:23:10 PM Well what a resourceful bunch you are: in answer to the questions, yes, excerpts were used in Folk Britannia and on the Video you mention, but to be sure of getting the image of the happy couple on their first date, a copy of the whole film would be necessary - and Alex Lyons has a spare! Goatboy also came up with a vid of the entirety so that was belt and braces.
Anyway, thanks to all of you on behalf of the requestee! Case closed Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Anna on October 04, 2006, 12:29:10 PM Isn't this place wonderful. Warmed the cockles of my heart on a hard day to see this.

Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: davidmjs on October 04, 2006, 04:53:54 PM Coincidentally, this just arrived in my inbox today from a (Dead) trading list I belong to...
"I picked this up from another list regarding Youtube "those who use Firefox as their browser can download the VideoDownloader extension to save the clip to their hard disc Not that I ever would of course" nor me https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2390/ " Yet another reason not to use Internet Explorer. Hypothetically of course.... ;) Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Mindwarper on October 04, 2006, 09:42:13 PM Has there been any band discusiions on releasing a video collection on dvd. Or even rereleasing it all comes round on dvd? There seems to be a lot of video and I would love to own it officially.
Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Chris on October 05, 2006, 09:15:37 AM At least I offered Cocker!! Would you really have given up your copy, Jen? Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Amethyst (Jenny) on October 05, 2006, 09:26:50 AM No way.. but could have found a way of copying it in such a good cause!
Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Goaty on December 09, 2006, 03:45:56 PM The video is finally being transferred to DVD this weekend, which I'll be duplicating during the week, so hopefully all those who requested a copy should have it by xmas, and if not shortly thereafter.
Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Goaty on December 18, 2006, 02:58:40 PM Apologies to all, it's been transferred and guess what, my DVD player won't read it, my PC says it's an invalid disc :(
Is there anyone out there (in the UK) who can xfer from VHS to DVD ? If so I could send you the tape, I can still do the duplication and mailing afterwards, I just need a working DVD copy. I *will* get this sorted, eventually, but probably not before the new year now... Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: davidmjs on December 18, 2006, 03:53:49 PM I've got a DVD copy of this. Let me know where to send a copy.. I'm assuming Simon has been sorted?
David Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Goaty on December 19, 2006, 09:33:43 AM A copy is on its way, thanks to everyone who offered. As for Simon, as far as I'm aware he still wants a copy. Simon ?
Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Goaty on January 01, 2007, 04:14:19 PM Discs are being copied now. To those of you who didn't supply an address, I'll be emailing you soon, to those that did, they should pop through your letter boxes next week :)
Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Goaty on January 17, 2007, 12:25:35 PM Ok, I've been procrastinating, compounded by returning to work, apologies. They'll be with you next week.
Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Goaty on January 30, 2007, 01:38:40 PM Just got back from the post office :o
Those of you in the UK should have them in the next couple of days, those in Europe by the end of the week and those in the states next week. Sorry it's taken so long, I got there in the end ::) Never having written DVDs before I'm not sure how reliable they are, I'd suggest copying them to your hard drive if you have a PC with a DVD drive. The copy I've used for testing has started jumping on my (quite old) DVD player but still plays perfectly on the PC. Anyway, enjoy :D If any don't arrive within 2 weeks let me know and I'll send again. Think I have a faulty copy though - the 5.1 surround sound doesn't seem to work ? ;) Does anyone recognise themselves (or their parents ?) in the crowd ? Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Stationary M25 Traveller on February 01, 2007, 09:11:26 PM What do you mean - it wasn't invented then ::)

I thought it was a young Peely on the commentary. Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: davidmjs on February 01, 2007, 09:54:33 PM I thought it was a young Peely on the commentary. Quite right... Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Stationary M25 Traveller on February 02, 2007, 09:42:09 AM ... what's more, it was so old-fashioned that my DVD remote control wouldn't play it :(
But - now I have replaced the batteries ::) Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: Edthefolkie on February 04, 2007, 06:39:08 PM Sorry if this has been posted before - the Maidstone gig was filmed by Tony Palmer and shown in cinemas - I saw it in what is now the Broadway Cinema in Nottingham. Tony himself introduced it and said that it was filmed using a combination of video and film technology. Coincidentally I recently found this interesting site http://www.tvstudiohistory.co.uk/index.htm which contains the following:
...Also known officially as 'Video Film Recording' (VFR), it was an experiment using combined film and TV cameras rather like ...the French system hired in to make the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus at Intertel's Wembley studio in the same year. It seems that the BBC were interested in trying out this technique too - thus ending up with a colour 16mm filmed programme by using television multicamera techniques. Of course, this never happened. It is said that the system was unreliable and in some way difficult for the cameramen... So that VHS tape actually contains 1970 cutting edge technology. Spacehopper anyone? Title: Re: FC at Maidstone 1970 (Film Clip) Post by: PL (Peter) on February 05, 2007, 08:42:31 AM Disc arrived on Friday.
Thanks a lot once again, Goatboy- made a big mental note for 1 or 2 pints at Cropredy. Listened to / watched it twice during the weekend. Boy, were they young then (so were we) ... and loads of hairs ( so had we) Good to see that "unmodern" music of 1970 is still going strong |
