Title: Matty Groves
Post by: Jono on October 30, 2006, 03:09:22 PM
I just stumbled across this...

http://www.pandora.com/music/song/3d09e06f6629c423

Not heard it before... does anybody have this version? Guitar work sounds awesome! And the dialogue sounds amusing too...

 ???

No Chris Leslie banter! You must have been bereft, Amy!

It does exactly what it says on the tin.  It's a newly edited version of the song stuck together from loads of different versions for the Fairport Unconventional box set...

The music in the background is what has become known as Metal Matty from the 25th Anniversary disc One of my personal Faves- Maart getting heavy! ;) ;D ;D

Much as I love the current line-up, I miss Maart as well - he must surely feature quite a bit in next year's set, being as he was in one of the longest-running line-ups?

Metal Matty for 2007!!!!  :) :)

' he must surely feature quite a bit in next year's set, being as he was in one of the longest-running line-ups?'

Sorry don't know how to do boxed quotes.

On the subject of longevity of lineiups:

The Maart-Peggy-Norm-DM-RIc line up was THE longest running - but at the end of this month the current line up will be the second longest overtaking Bruce-Swarb-Norm=Peggy at 8 years 8 months.

Amazing the things you can find not to do work.

Amazing trivia!

I wonder how long the current line-up will last ......?

Norm?  I take it this refers to Simon.  I haven't heard him called Norm before.  What's the story with this?

Glad somebody else asked....!

I've been watching, listening to, and reading about the band for a quarter of a century or more and yesterday was the first time I've ever heard Simon being called anything other than Simon...

It's years old, in fact I'm sure there's a post on here from Simon detailing the origins. Dates back to the sessions for the Albion Band's lost classic 'Light Shining' down in Deal (1982 I think that'll make it). Ordering a meal in a restaurant, going for the footballer special, all prawn cocktails etc, as "Norman Normal" and it just stuck. Summat like that anyway....no real meaning/origin though, unlike Swarb's "Compo" which is pretty self explanatory  ;D

Have a listen to something like 'The Other Boot' (or anything mid 80s & live) and as well as some pretty stunning music you're sure to hear Peggy use it.

Not if you were dancing vibrantly enough, wore a balaclava and silk thermal undearwear,

and a safety cup of mulled Spangle, I bet  :)

I heard someone call him "the bored looking bloke with the very long hair" in October 1970.

Really Anji... the mere thought of you dancing vibrantly in silk underwear is enough to lead a chap's thoughts to Grovesian misdemeanours

Cold shower time  :-[

Problem is, Nuthouse, she was talking about me dancing in silk underwear. Not such a mouthwatering prospect.
