Title: Fairport artwork
Post by: Edthefolkie on April 25, 2007, 11:39:29 PM
Have just reached the big six oh   >:(  and it don't arf make you think about your misspent youth.

1967...Sgt Pepper...Oz....IT....pyschedelic posters and all that - yes folks, your scribe must be one of the few ex employees of B*rclays B*nk to have read Oz magazine at work.

So I started messing about on the web and found this....It's by Osiris which I think may also be Hapshash and the Coloured Coat i.e. Nigel Waymouth. You can identify the band members inc. Jude on the roof.

Coincidentally I was looking at an old Corgi poetry book I have from that era and realised the cover must be by Hapshash as well. I know it's not Fairport related but it's too good not to scan.

And didn't the same mob design Fairport's first album?

Anybody else got any early Fairport era psychedelia (man)? Cheers - Ed

Despite being a Deadhead and loving the West Coast psychedelic artists...I still find myself favouring the Hapshash stuff.  The Fairport poster you've put here is just exquisite isn't it?  Never seen the book cover before - thanks for that...

I was looking at that 'house' poster just yesterday. I believe it's rather scary for small children!!

I would love to have a copy of that poster or indeed the 'Ribbon Bow' poster

However, I have got one of the Saville Theatre posters of the Pink Floyd/ISB/Tomorrow/FC gig in Oct 67 that is hanging in pride of place next to the boiler.... ;D

This is where most of them are

The House picture would make a great tee shirt design - what would the copyright issues be?

Nice innit? Looks better scanned  - the original's a bit dulled with age, like me.

After a lot of messing about on the interweb, I have come to the conclusion that the book cover is by Martin Sharp who I believe was half of Hapshash anyway.

Looking at Jude's link, wow man, it's a Russian site! Talk about prophets and honour etc!

Cheers - Ed

Not quite...Hapshash were Michael English and Nigel Waymouth.  Martin Sharp was definitely in the same crowd and working for the same crowd but not as part of Hapshash themselves...
