No tickets, just a scrum at the door at 7.30...

There is a DVD coming out of the Mill Gig!! Being recorded next week. Should be really good. Check the Fairport site for details. BTW, I started a new thread about this, but someone came along and deleated it.  ???  :( why?

Ooh, thanks for that info Malcolm.  It may be a mistake but I won't pre-book for this one.  I arrived at about 7 for Phil Beer and co and despite being convinced it'd be a sell-out (the place was pretty full by the time PB started, admittedly) there were only about half a dozen people there by 7.30.  And it keeps my options open if anything comes up at home and I can't make it.  Not that that will be allowed, of course... ;)

Well, a good night was had by all at The Sun in Hitchin.  Met up with Malcolm and friends and had a good chat during the interval.  I suspect I may have spied young Dennis (Denjack??) in the front row, but it's not the "done thing" to go up to a youngster as a random stranger and say "hello, are you Dennis?" If it's not who you think it is, the parents might take umbrage...

Peggy and PJ were on form, giving us a mixture of songs old and new, some from both of their catalogues, and lively banter and mucking about.  I hadn't figured Peggy as such a good guitarist, totally underestimated him there!  The Uke section was fun and I don't think Peggy played the same instrument two songs in a row...

Over the course of the evening there were a couple of what I'm coming to think of a "Hitchin Hitches"... Every band/group/person I've seen there has had one or two of these.  The girl who did the warm-up stint (very good, she was - all the way up from Devon - Ella someone?  Sorry, forgotten already!) had some trouble with her guitar strap while trying to plug the lead into it.  PJ had a "guitar in the wrong tuning" moment and amazing re-tuned the bottom E-string on the fly during the song, which was MOST impressive!  And the putting the Uke on the lyrics moment was fun too.

Special mention goes to the double harmonica solo and the Shadows number (complete with dancing).  I could go on and on but just to sum up, it was a fun night out watching two blokes obviously enjoying themselves up there. :)

Was that Ella Edmundson by any chance.. a young (early 20's) blonde girl..?? She supported Ric when he played for us, and is from Devon.

Can't wait for the Peggy & Peej gig at Farnsfield on the 16th June.. appetite duly whetted!

A great night with Peggy & Peej at the Beinn Inn in Beautiful Glenfarg,  Great gig although there could have been more bums on seats. Laugh was that, whilst having a practice in the afternoon, Martin Taylor walked in!  Much putting down of guitars, etc.  However, bloody nice bloke MT.
Liked the story about him when he hadcompleted the Renault Clio ads, you know the Nicole..Papa thing.  Someone asked, "did they give you a free Renault Clio"?.  "No", replied Matin, "I took the money and bought a Merc"
Galilleo is a belting disc too.

The peaceful hamlet of Ebbesbourne Wake near Salisbury was the latest stop on the "A Night Off" with Peggy & PJ tourette.
Clearly Peggy and PJ are having a lot of fun working together, there is an obvious chemistry on stage as both give so unselfishly to create the whole, the result is an absolute delight.
Last night the two of them took the small but perfectly formed audience on a joyride of emotions, telling tales that at times rendered both audience and performers alike helpless with laughter, add to that the superb musical abilty that Peggy & PJ have at their fingertips and the result is a pretty spectacular night out.
Catch them if you can

Honestly, thats not a real cow behind Peggy, the local children had painted a splendid pastoral scene depicting farmyard animals on the stage backdrop.

It's his reserve supply, as he ran out of proper shirts at Banbury (where he'd had to have a shirt adjusted by his neighbour, who happens to be Banbury's best tailor.)

On May 27th. that's next Sunday, you could see Peggy & PJ in a different guise as they take to the stage with Steve Gibbons Dylan Project at the Mayfest in Brent Pelham, Hertfordshire. http://www.mayfest.org.uk/  the chaps are due on stage at 3.00pm

Chris, It seems Mayfest's two stages are housed inside marquees, therefore the weather shouldn't be an issue.

Walking between the two, the toilets & the beer / food I was referring to. Oh, and parking one's car & walking to said marquees. It isn't all undercover.

That Chris Bates is a bloody jinx, I mentioned that the Mayfest was on this coming Sunday, he warned me about the usual wet bank holiday weather.  Looks as though he's gonna be proved right.  >:(

Every Bank Holiday Monday that Hampton Court Fair has been on, on, it has always piddled down.

I asked the students, if they are interested. They said, that it will be their last evening in London and they think they will not have enough money for a ticket.  ;D

Funny enough it was a non smoking gig.
But in the pub I smoked as much as I could, because it was the last time that I could do so. The next time I'll be in England I have to smoke outside.
I enjoyed the gig very much, because my students didn't have enough money left to buy a ticket.
It was good to see some Anji, DH, Chris B. and some others.

I loved the pub - mostly of wooden construction, good beer, NO jukebox, only one (silent) slot machine in the corner, very convenient - literally across the road from Wood Street station.

Very convenient for us, too.  Only about 10 minutes on the train (2 stops)!  Managed to persuade my other half to come, as we unexpectedly had a child-free evening, and the thought that neither of us had to drive had a lot to do with it!

Really enjoyed the evening and bought the CD.  It's excellent!  Unfortunately we both had a bit too much beer, and I spent most of yesterday with a "migraine"!

We are not smokers, so were grateful that the back room where the gig took place was non-smoking.

Chris, I recognised you, but we were at the back sitting near the bar and you were at the front otherwise I would probably have said hello (I'm a bit shy about introducing myself!)

This is going to be a HOT gig! Two very spacial headbangers guesting and a lady on the sound desk - perfect!

Peggy & Peej played a cracking gig last night at Farnsfield. I use the word ‘cracking’ meaningfully as three or four songs in we were in the middle of a very active thunderstorm that cut all power for a short while.  The chaps didn’t miss a note.. playing on (Little Johnny England) to the accompaniment of the packed audience quietly clapping in time.  It was an unforgettable moment in the FarnsAc history!

A year ago the duo played their very first gig for us and said they were nervous.. this time there were absolutely no nerves.. at all!  The long night included a taste of Tull.. Jack Frost & the Hooded Crow; a taste of Fairport.. Bankruptured; the fab Lilly of Barbary.. remember that from when PJ was Fairport wintertour support; and many more from both of their wide experience.

There were numerous tales and stories.. I’m sure most of them were true too!  Peggy did a good job advertising our next gig.. Swarb in Sept.. and told us not to repeat his Swarb story to the man himself!  All evening they had us either in stitches with their anecdotes or enthralled by their musicianship.

Peggy & Peej now have a ‘new band’..  namely The Ukeists… a long and detailed intro to the song Linseed Memories before the guitarists joined them… namely Gareth Pugwash and Mike Jervis!  Jill had gone to Tesco specially to buy big knickers so we could throw them onto the stage.. but got sidetracked and forgot to look for them!  Gareth & Mike had been practicing the song for months.. well weeks at least and when they had their first play through Peggy realised they needed more chords.. so he very carefully gave them an impromptu lesson and with much gentle encouragement they played it spot on!  Their stage debut in Peggy’s band.. not bad!

A fantastic night .. go and see this pair the very next chance you get.
