Title: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: ollythedolly on June 01, 2007, 03:37:02 PM are the words a trad or Fairport outing?
Thanks, Olly. Title: Re: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: GubGub (Al) on June 01, 2007, 03:39:41 PM Fairport. Mr R Thompson to be precise. When recently questioned on the meaning of the lyrics he replied, with his tongue very much in his cheek I suspect, that he thought it was one of his easier ones to understand!
How quick is that? Title: Re: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: Mix (Mic) on June 01, 2007, 03:51:28 PM There is nothing quick about Sloth ;D ;D
Title: Re: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: Malcolm on June 01, 2007, 04:08:45 PM Is it to do with marital strife? I thought so.
Title: Re: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: Mix (Mic) on June 01, 2007, 04:17:50 PM To me it's a sweetheart that doesn't hold with him joining up and going to war, and when he does she leaves him. :-\
Title: Re: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: Jim on June 01, 2007, 04:42:35 PM aha! it works on many levels

Title: Re: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: Anne T on June 01, 2007, 07:26:21 PM Assumed it was an anti war song with the title being a reference to how easy it is to let bad stuff happen simply by doing nothing.
But sloths are really cute as well. Title: Re: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: ollythedolly on June 01, 2007, 07:32:21 PM But sloths are really cute as well. Funny I was just listening to Sloth on Full House. I'd always followed it along the lines of Malcolm - war as an analogy for relationship problems - but Mix's interpretation seems to make sense. Assume the title refers to it's speed/length? Title: Re: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: Keith on June 02, 2007, 10:40:30 AM I understand it as a relationship that is slowly collapsing as two parties move further apart and cannot find common ground. "Sloth" is not about speed but the lack of effort either party is prepared to put into putting things right.
IMHO Title: Re: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: PLW (Peter) on June 02, 2007, 10:47:10 AM Isn't the sloth of the title a reference to one of the seven deadly sins?
Title: Re: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: Miguel Cajon (Mick) on June 02, 2007, 07:29:59 PM Interesting this, because lyrics are usually the last thing I listen to. I just love RT's guitar work on this song.
*runs off to listen to lyrics more* Title: Re: Quick Sloth question.... Post by: Nick on June 03, 2007, 11:58:18 PM Isn't the sloth of the title a reference to one of the seven deadly sins? He had planned to write about the other 6 ... but lost interest and couldn't be bothered. Title: Re: Quick Sloth question....
