Title: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Anne T on July 28, 2007, 09:43:13 PM This doesn't appear on the gigs list on the FC site yet, unless I am being more dense than usual, but it seems our heroes are headlining Saturday night at the 2nd Moseley Folk Festival in Birmingham on Sat 1st Sept. Swarb's Lazarus are also on the bill, as well as Davey Graham and Tunng.
Lots of goodies on the Sunday too: http://moseleyfolk.co.uk/line_up/2007/ Sounds like a very pleasant venue and a nice way to spend the last weekend of the school holidays! Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Anne T on July 28, 2007, 09:48:35 PM Sorry mods: just noticed that this is mentioned on the list of festivals on "Music Festivals"; however, it doesn't appear to have its own thread. Please remove if irrelevant.
Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Sir Robert Peel on July 28, 2007, 10:12:48 PM No, no, dear AnneT. A bit of cross-referencing, underlining and marking with a highlighter pen in the Fairport Convention area is a jolly good thing.

Both are a short (~15mins) bus ride away from Moseley Park. http://www.travelodge.co.uk There's also the cheap and cheerful ETAP hotel on the South Side of Brum City Centre - that has rooms available too. Much cheaper than the travelodges but not as easy to get to and from the festival site. http://www.etaphotel.com I'm planning on being there on the Saturday - I guess I'll see a lot of you... Short sets :( Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: rachel on August 26, 2007, 12:28:27 AM Not impressed >:(. Far too short times allowed for the acts. If we had seen the timings before I'm not that sure we would have booked.
rachel Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Amethyst (Jenny) on August 26, 2007, 09:53:28 AM Don't think we would have either!
Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Ollie on August 26, 2007, 12:23:23 PM I remember somewhere reading somewhere that Swarb was gonna make a guest apperance with FC. I wonder what they will do?
Oh, and if you can, check out Gareth Pearson. He is only 18 and is an amazing guitar player. Definate slot for next years Cropredy methinks. Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Shane (Skirky) on August 26, 2007, 12:41:39 PM On the other hand, you could argue that it's a marvellous opportunity to see a wide range of turns and that if you don't like one there'll be another along in a minute. One would hardly expect to start reading on the interweb about a group of FC fans who stormed in for their set, buggered off afterwards and weren't interested in any other other acts? Substitute the initials MA for FC, for instance.
Oh, and Ollie - have a word with yourself - you've started using the word 'methinks'. Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: rachel on August 26, 2007, 04:02:22 PM If a festival is being sold on the basis of the headline acts then it is hardly unreasonable to expect that they are going to have a decent length of time to perform.
Had no intention of just seeing FC and had coughed up for weekend tickets and hotel plus travel so that we could see a range of acts but in particular Jim Moray on the sunday, who it appears will be on stage for a sum total of 35 minutes :o. Because finances are tight we have to be very careful about which concerts / festivals we choose to go to and with more information I don't think this would have been the one. I very much hope to be proved wrong. As they apparently have two stages then maybe it would have been possible to have given the more popular acts longer. It seems like the organisers have tried to cram too much in. rachel Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: PLW (Peter) on August 26, 2007, 05:04:29 PM It looks like the sets could be even shorter than advertised - there is no time allowed for change overs in Chris's list.
Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Amethyst (Jenny) on August 26, 2007, 05:31:16 PM It'll be lovely to be there and will report afterwards ;D
Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Delfini (Diane) on August 26, 2007, 05:35:43 PM I'm looking forward to it. I get used to shorter acts than we get at Cropredy, at Cambridge. It'll be nice to hear some different/new people. And a challenge not to buy too many cds ::)
Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Amethyst (Jenny) on August 26, 2007, 05:41:18 PM I still haven't listened to most of the new cds from Cropredy yet!!
Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Chris on August 26, 2007, 08:27:26 PM It looks like the sets could be even shorter than advertised - there is no time allowed for change overs in Chris's list. Yes, there is - at least 20 minutes between sets. You have noticed that there are two stages? Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Karlhippy on August 28, 2007, 08:36:55 AM Tis Moseley fair friends, the sounds are one of the B13 noise level terrorist.....
ie: not too loud after 11pm, etc.... ??? Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Alezed (Aleks) on August 29, 2007, 09:10:32 PM I'm so excited.... woooo hoooo!
Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Addie on August 30, 2007, 04:27:08 PM Looks loike the rain is going to hold off as well. Might be a bit chilly for any of you coming up from South of Watford though ;D
Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Karlhippy on August 31, 2007, 10:31:50 AM I hope one and all have a great weekend. As a south Brummy resident, I know that Moseley is the place to be. There are great curry houses and pubs all around the area. For real ale buffs, I recommend the Prince Of Wales, followed by the Fighting Cocks for pre&post gig beers. [url][http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moseley/url]. There is a vibrant boho scene, with plenty of music venues. Maybe next year for me.
Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: annieguy on August 31, 2007, 10:56:52 AM It looks like the sets could be even shorter than advertised - there is no time allowed for change overs in Chris's list. Yes, there is - at least 20 minutes between sets. You have noticed that there are two stages? Sounds like the same set-up as last year - the two stages are next to each other, so the music is continuous, they change-over on the big stage while the next act is playing on the smaller stage. The park is so small, you can hear from most places (and certainly from the bar), so you don't really miss out on anything :-) Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Amethyst (Jenny) on September 02, 2007, 11:09:38 AM Oh how they rocked!!!
We were right down at the front (makes a welcome change for me!) and they were just FAB!!! The set was a short one due to timings, but we knew that anyway.. they certainly made the most of it. And Swarb played with them on Hexhamshire Lass (CL vocals) and Walkawhile.. There was a huge cheer when Swarb came out to play! A very memorable set indeed.. hope the photos are ok.. haven't had time to look yet. Swarb's Lazarus also played a great set.. a song from both Kev and Maart and wonderful playing from each.. Maart had to dash off afterwards to be on telly this morning. Martha Tilston's set was too short, but good to hear her again. Great to meet up with TAW friends and to meet Anne T with the programme avatar. A lovely village fete type festival with Morris dancing and balloons and knittting and cakes and wine and ice cream as well as the usual stalls. Right on the main high street (not easy to find at first) and with Sainsburys opposite and O'Neill's next door for the loo!! Good to have the chance to talk to a few Fairports and thank them personally for the best Cropredy ever too! Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: Anne T on September 02, 2007, 06:51:07 PM Wholeheartedly agree with Amethyst - the set was short, but a great, noisy and obviously popular end to the evening.
The backdrop was very fetching (a tree decorated with fairy lights just behind the drums; I think Gerry should demand one of these at every venue!) No doubt there will be some pictures eventually, as I spotted a gentleman (resembling Chris's avatar) snapping away. It was great to be able to be so near the stage as well; my daughter and I had a view of things we don't normally notice, like how fast Chris's fingers fly on the mandolin and Peggy playing harmonics - never even thought that people did that on the bass (which probably just shows my ignorance). Another great sight was a group of teenagers who were pogoing most enthusiastically to Matty Groves. Title: Re: FC at Moseley Folk Festival Post by: GraemeH on September 03, 2007, 04:29:44 PM Have posted a review with pics in the other thread.
