Title: RT's guitar on the Liege and Lief rehearsals... Post by: Nic O on August 08, 2007, 05:41:50 PM What a lovely looking guitar ... but what is it?
Lake Placid blue and a sort of hybrid between a Strat and a telecaster ... Is this the up-market Fender of the cheap Fender Squeir 1953 classic I bought a few months ago - pix elsewhere on this board can anyone help? I don't think there is an upmarket version of your guitar, it actually was a genuine Squire design. It's not a Peavey is it, they do something that is a cross between a tele and a strat, including a Jerry Donahue signature. Paul Title: Re: RT's guitar on the Liege and Lief rehearsals... Post by: Shane (Skirky) on August 08, 2007, 06:01:12 PM It's a custom job featuring a humbucker, and a couple of single coil pick ups thus having the combination of classic Les Paul, Strat and Telecaster sounds in one handy package. I think it was made by Danny Ferrington. He's been playing it a few years now, certainly since his classic '59 (?) Strat became virtually uplayable. If you've got the patience to trawl through lots and lots of Q&A's on his website the info, such as I can remember it, is buried in there.

Amazing guitar ... wonder if Fender caught wind of it to produce the cheap Squier classic, which is pretty much that ... Tele neck, Strat Body, Precision srcatchplate, single coil at bridge and humbucker at neck ... God, I want to play that guitar!!!! [;-) Title: Re: RT's guitar on the Liege and Lief rehearsals... Post by: Miguel Cajon (Mick) on August 08, 2007, 06:19:39 PM He played it last night on all but about 4 songs and it sounded superb. Well used because all the finish has rubbed off on the back.

Post by: Curt on August 08, 2007, 08:22:12 PM A few tours back people always seemed to comment that he sounded better with the Fender rather than with the Ferrington - but I couldn't tell much difference to be honest. He never seemed to have the P90 engaged, so it was a similar pickup config as the stratocaster.

Title: Re: RT's guitar on the Liege and Lief rehearsals... Post by: MarkC on August 12, 2007, 04:16:18 PM Wish he'd go back to a Les Paul..... Matter of personal taste...for myself, there is nothing like a vintage, single coil Stratocaster sound. Harder to play (less sustain) but far more expressive (IMO), especially in the hands of a master like RT. Title: Re: RT's guitar on the Liege and Lief rehearsals... Post by: Curt on August 15, 2007, 03:34:15 PM The Surf Green Ferrington doesn't have a humbucker - its config is Neck: P90 Middle: Stratocaster pickup Bridge: Broadcaster (i.e. hot wound Telecaster).

Now having seen him play it live I was surprised by the colour ... a real Surf Green and a beautiful looking guitar Title: Re: RT's guitar on the Liege and Lief rehearsals... Post by: Shane (Skirky) on August 21, 2007, 10:38:00 PM In a trainspotter-esque mode, there's a picture on his website of RT at the Cropredy L&L soundcheck trying out what looks like the the old Strat. Wonder why that didn't make it?
