Bein Inn, Glenfarg on Monday 8th October.  Got tickets today.  Hooray!

Should be a good one there as it's not the biggest of venues! I used to live in Fife and saw Martin Stephenson and Michael Chapman at the Bein Inn.

More recently we bumped into MC at the Brampton Festival. He'd come along to see Dick Gaughan and his wife had a stall in the festival market.

Yes apparently the capacity is only 70 so it should be quite an intimate evening!  Fairport - up close & personal !!?!

Some of my favourite Fairport remembers are at FAC shows in really small places - everyone who gets in to that venue will have an evening to treasure.  Enjoy!

Must look at getting my own ticket for one of the FAC gigs...

Fantastic venue. Very intimate with a capacity of 60 when I saw Iain Matthews there in April this year.

Sorry to hog this thread, but I've just checked that place out - WOW!!!  That's the one I want to go to on the FAC tour!  Now, to get there from St Albans (just north of London)...

---

£42 return if I play my cards right with BR...  Hmmm, wonder if the gig's sold out yet?  Will you lot look after me if I show up travel-weary and dishevelled?

The intimacy of the venue is reflected in the ticket price. £30.00. Phew! :o

Travel-weary is right - Glenfarg is some distance from the nearest railway station & a bit difficult to get to by public transport.  Only 20 minutes up the road by car for me though (he said trying - & probably failing - not to sound too smug).

YAY!!

Ticket & accommodation booked!  Beginning to ponder the wisdom of reserving a room on the Sunday night as well, seeing as it appears there are no busses on Sundays...  Hey ho, a bit of a walk never killed anyone and it's lovely countryside up there (so long as it's not raining or snowing or something).  Walking boots at the ready!

Travel advice from locals/regulars will be much appreciated!

I presume you've seen their web site... http://www.beininn.com/

Although it says they are in Glenfarg that's not strictly true. It's a bit of a hike from the village itself. But it's a great wee place and as they say, they've got a large collection of music memorabilia especially in the basement bar.

I'm sure it'll be a fab gig!  :)

Are you getting a train up to Scotland ?  If so to where - Edinburgh or Perth?

As you know (from the first post in the thread) I'm going to the gig so if I can be of help get in touch.

That looks really lovely.
Anna, what an adventurer you are, just going it for it. Hope you have a great time.

Had a right old fight getting reasonably priced tickets for the journey up just then!  I think GNER don't have many Cheeep tickets...  Managed to secure £37 Stevenage -> Perth on Sunday (gotta get to Stevenage first though) 7th and £22 Perth -> Bushey on Tuesday 9th.  Certainly cheaper than petrol!

Anyway, I'll be arriving in Perth at about about 6.30pm (all being well with engineering works etc)

As for adventurer, well, it's just getting Justin back really for spending the last 6 weeks in the USA and Canada without me!  He had friends with him though.  I do have a bit of trepidation, although I've managed to get the number of train changes down to a mininum - at one point I was having to walk between the two main stations in Glasgow with half an hour between trains - not my idea of fun in an unfamiliar town even though I'm quite good at following maps.

GS, I'm investigating travel options from Perth at the minute, thankyou for the offer of help (it's a bleddy long walk now I look at the map!) and I'll be in touch anyway, if only to find out what you look like so I've got someone to talk to at the bar!

It's the sort of venue where you might find Simon & co in the bar before the gig as there isn't anywhere else to eat unless you drive along to Glenfarg itself. But maybe they'll hide themselves away in their rooms before the gig!

At the Michael Chapman gig we got there early to have a bite to eat and found himself having a meal. My wife knows Michael from years back when an ex of hers used to be his manager. Michael recognised her immediately and invited us to join him... which was nice.

According to Multimap, 8.14 miles from Perth Stn to PH2 9PY (the hotel).  2 hours walk, to arrive about 8.30 - 9pm ready for dinner!  Well, it's an option...  I'm enjoying this, now I know that it's possible to walk it if nothing else arises.   {:-)

I'll look out for the Chaps in the bar on Monday evening certainly.  It wouldn't surprise me if they were there if only for a short while - they probably do some pre-gig mental preparation or something.  Part of me is hoping for an after-gig session but they usually disappear off towards the next destination.  We shall see.
