Jules Title: Re: What album bests reflects each member of fairport? Post by: Jules Gray on September 27, 2007, 09:48:34 AM Songwise, I'd say...

Some of the people are too difficult to come up with one song for too... Also depends, in what kind of way do you mean "reflects"?
Simon - Neil Gow's Apprentice Ric - Portmeirion Chris L - Spring Song Peggy - The Swirling Pit Judy - Both Sides Now Sandy - Farewell Farewell Maart - Wounded Whale RT - Jack O'Diamonds Swarb - Rosie BTW, welcome Nikki, you're doing fine - joined in so seamlessly there nobody else noticed! Post by: Ollie on September 27, 2007, 07:06:21 PM Album's are quite difficult to alocate a band member too because each member brings something different to that album. So here are my song suggestions
Simon - Who Knows Where the Time Goes Chris - My Love is in America Peggy - Cocktail Cowboy (i know it's not an FC track) Ric - Portmeirion Gerry - Willow Creek DM - Tam Lin Maart - The Wounded Whale Swarb - The Lark Medley or Dirty Linen Bruce - Reynard the Fox Sandy - Who Knows Where the Time Goes Trevor - Bring 'Em Down or Polly on the Shore Jerry - One More Chance or The Claw RT - Sloth (any version that he plays) Ashley - Come All Ye Ian - Tale in Hard Time Judy - Chelsea Morning Martin - A Sailor's Life Title: Re: What album bests reflects each member of fairport? Post by: GubGub (Al) on September 28, 2007, 02:54:39 PM Have just found this thread (and indeed every thread as I haven't had time to get on line for a while). As far as songs go, my list would probably be a combination of those mentioned above. I thought Maart had maybe been poorly served but the someone mentioned The Wounded Whale which I think is spot on. That or A Surfeit of Lampreys. Just for the hell of it though, here are a few alternative suggestions that come to mind quickly when I think of the individuals involved:
Swarb - Hexamshire Lass Peggy - Polly On The Shore Jerry - One More Chance Ric - Portmeiron Chris - John Gaudie Ashley - Mr Lacey Simon - Wat Tyler, because he co-wrote it and it's humanity seems very much of the man himself. Martin - Si Tu Dois Partir DM - Something from Angel Delight. He is all over that album. Perhaps Journeyman's Grace Bruce - Royal Seleccion No 13 (or whatever it is called. Sorry, don't have it handy) Gerry - Western Wind I think Book Song, I Don't Know Where I Stand and Poor Will are on the nose for Iain, Jude & RT ashas already been noted. Oh, I don't know. The next one of course. Title: Re: What album bests reflects each member of fairport? Post by: Mindwarper on September 28, 2007, 07:11:43 PM Bah, Cat on the mixer is much better in my eyes. Or even Con Casey's Jig / Tripping Up The Stairs
And Innstuck is such a lilty fun piece. But to each their own. I thought Maart had maybe been poorly served but the someone mentioned The Wounded Whale which I think is spot on. That or A Surfeit of Lampreys. Title: Re: What album bests reflects each member of fairport? Post by: Nikki on September 29, 2007, 08:16:31 AM I always find i have to be in the right mood to carry off my "Lilty Fun Piece" , and sometimes even then my husband says he has a headache, hee, hee, hee"

Peggy-Dirty Linen (love the entire thing, but I LISTEN for Peggy's bass) Ric-Portmeirion, (or The Rose Hip, tough choice)\ Chris-John Gaudie Gerry-Let There Be Drums (live, I know, but damn good) Richard-Farewell, Farewell Swarb-Rosie Trevor-Polly On The Shore Sandy-Who Knows Where The Time Goes Jerry-maybe an odd choice, but Possibly Parsons Green Iain-Nottamun Town DM-Lark In The Morning Medley-influential, maybe without him ever knowing it! Ashley-same as DM, I think all his interest in dance music came from that track Martin-A Sailor's Life-for what could have been Maartin-Innstuck Judy-Both Sides Now Bruce-Orange Blossom Special Everyone else-thanks for the memories, and keeping it going but, well..... |
