Post by: rolyh on October 02, 2007, 06:15:03 PM
The Folk on 2 website is saying that this will be broadcast on October the 10th. Hope they don't chop it about.

or compress it to hell. I hope to hear it. I am excited about hearing the 2007 version of farewell farewell. I don't think RT has played it since 1969?????

I think they are going to broadcast the whole thing (ie, all the songs) but cut out the mid song banter and replace it with interviewettes.

Well, not full blown interviews, just like a question each, I think. I did read it somewhere but can't for the life of me remember where...

I think "interviewettes" is perfectly acceptable modern English, GF, but for the want of a hyphen.

You did one stinker yesterday though, Ollie.

See me.

Can't get Radio 2 unfortunately as my radio doesn't pick up transmissions from England.

Is there any possibility that it might be podcast?

A freind who lives "near" Melbourne in Geelong often listens to BBC radio on the internet, so it should be fine, mind you he also stays up to watch live English football(I refuse to call it So**er).  It should be available live from the radio2 web site on play it again, and normally stays there for a week.

Excellent... thanks ... I will capture it and nick my wife's Ipod.

This is a great website.... Its real drawback is that occasionally I get reminded of all the good beer I am missing.

You might ask ... what English beer do I miss the most .... Badger, Brakspear, Hook Norton, Wadworth, Fremlins, Hartley........ Aaaah dream on.

I refuse to say s****r also but that's because I didn't like it.

Never used to like cricket either as it always ended up as a draw. At least in Australia, it has become a decent game....... and I now love it!!!!

I hope they don't cut out all of Simon's banter.  He's such a great MC.

It will, but check you can obtain the Listen Again facility - it is only available where copyright allows...if you can access the current online program, then you shuld be able to access the Liege & Lief show.
EVeryone can access the live broadcast, it's just the Listen Again facility that isn't available worldwide.

If you use the new Real Player to listen to the stream, it allows you to actually record what your listening too, which is kinda of nifty if you want to keep it. Sorry if its already been mentioned.

Hmmm....it was quite good, that professionally recorded programe....I prefer the tape I took at the time, can hear the family singing along better  ??? and I like the big bass drum sound, a more authentic memory of a great Cropredy, even if it does wake the students next door...

I couldn't get my receiver working! Not used it for ages.

Anyway, it's already coming down from another source.

Sounded great from Oslo. Hopefully it'll turn up in official form on DVD or CD. I'd have loved that. Vocally a vast improvement on the Cathy LeSurf-versions from 1983. But I was surprised to hear Richard claiming he hadn't played with all these guys since the 60's. The remaining members have reconvened at Crops a few times before, although this is the first time they have played the entire L&L. In 1983 they played everything except "The deserter" (although Matty was performed by a different line-up towards the end).

I was moved to tears all over again by Come All Ye, by Farewell Farewell, and by Swarb's interview comments about not hearing the album since Sandy died.

But they had RT's interview over the top of the intro to The Deserter!  Why?!?!

I'm pretty certain all this stuff is deliberate to thwart bootleggers.

Just giving the "Listen Again" a go.

Although I heard Chris While several times during the last few years and of course saw/heard her as well at Cropredy this year it just astonishing how hauntingly beaitiful her voice is.
Reynardine is just cracking!

Keeping fingers crossed for a proper CD release

Peter

Listening now, I can't imagine bigger shoes to fill than those Chris While had to - what a job she does, absolutely beautiful, a real sympathy for and understanding of the songs.

I understand that the BBC own the rights to this - and I also understand that the considered opinion is that they feel everyone will have downloaded it. i.e. a cat's in hell chance of it appearing on CD.

It wasn't filmed in its entirety, so that probably answers the other part of the question.

I think they should reconsider if that is the case. Judging by the clamour here, there is a strong demand for a clean copy. I would certainly buy it as I have not really mastered the downloading thing and enjoyable though the interviews were, I would prefer a version without them, a straight run through. Also the sound dropped out during Tam Lin in my area so that is imperfect.

farport at the bbc  does not contain all the sessions that fc have done for the bbeb
so why not a secong volume? one disc with the remaining sessions and another with l&l live?
they would sell then i'm certain
or even do what fairport did with the cropredy box and ask for the money upfront then send the discs out
a bit like what peggy did with his box

I can't see that happening, Jim.  Partnering a "best of the rest" with an essential reunion concert would make for an uneven release.
