Title: Songwriting
Post by: Shane (Skirky) on February 01, 2008, 06:03:16 PM
Hello Mr Swarbrick - you wrote some great songs with Richard Thompson - how did that work? Did you sit together in a room, or pass scraps of paper between you? And did one of you write the words and one the music? And is it true that you wrote Rosie in the back of a taxi?
Cheers

Yes, it WAS written in the back of a taxi ( Rosie ). It took 10 minutes. Sometimes you get lucky, where it comes from God knows. Other times, it's hard work and songs have to be crafted. Both methods would apply to Richard's and My songs. Sometimes we did pass scraps of paper, sometimes I gave him a tune...sometimes he had a set of words as with Crazy Man Michael. Swarb x
