Title: non-folk musical preferences Post by: koho (Koen) on February 05, 2008, 09:43:59 AM Hi Swarb! Great to have you in Talkawhile.
I did have a little question. You came from the folk scene before joining Fairport in '69 and I don't think there was much crossover before that and to some your mingling with a rock band would have come as a surprise. When you became a member you were kinda thrown in this whole different scene and crossed paths with the rock groups of the day (festivalposters from the early 70s do make me drool). What, outside of the folk/folkrock "genre", did you really like? I don't think you will have got into Bay City Rollers or Black Sabbath to name two extremes beginning with B. But what did click with you? Me, as purely a listener I am well rooted in folky stuff, it's like my "home base", but then I am a Beatles-Byrds-Grateful Dead-Deep Purple-Thin Lizzy-Procol Harum-Pink Floyd nut too. What about you? I hope to see you in Nieuwegein in Holland in April with Lazarus -at LAST some Dutch gigs; I met unexpected indifference from a lot of venues here when I tried to help with a few dates (so sod Holland overall) 2 years or so ago as you know, but the Nieuwegein venue was interested back then too so that's cool that it's happening now. Back then they couldn't do it in the desired period but they were most sympathetic and this was rare. Nice theatre (well, boring town, but it's very close to the nice city of Utrecht), and I've seen both FC and John Tams/Graeme Taylor there a few years ago. Sadly, a rare breed of theatre these days, over here. See you then. And hello to Jill!
