Are you a fan of opera Swarb? I havn't seen much of Callas, but the odd recording I have seen is superb.

If so, what modern opera singers do you rate?

actually I am not a great fan, i take ken dodds line , that when someone is stabbed in opera they dont bleed they sing! having said that, some aria's crack me into bits, and i fine some of it emotionly wonderful if draining. opera wise I am an eager to learn philistine. I think Bocelli's rendition of schuberts ave maria stunning, perhaps because i loved the melody so much as a child, and also because of his version sung at the 9/11 ceremony. not that bach/gounod's version is any less compelling.

My father was an opera fan, but he was a close friend of Callas' rival Renata Tebaldi (I also knew her well). I eventually never fell in love with opera, or at least not too much. I betrayed familiar tradition for folk music.
Talking about folk, which traditional music do you like apart british (and scottish/irish)?

best

Paolo
