Title: Beggining the Fiddle
Post by: Ollie on March 06, 2008, 05:57:44 PM
Hi Swarb

I got a fiddle today  ;D, something I have been wanting for a while. It's a Stentor something, and was about £115, including case, bow and rosin.

Have you got any tips on starting. I play the mandolin, so I know my way around the fretboard (do you call it that on a fiddle?)... well, sort of (no frets, different angle etc) so what I'm really asking is if you have any tips on bowing technique, how to hold it, how to stop it screeching etc.

Thanks in advance

Waes hael

Ollie

its not poss to explain so much in writing, my best tip would be to find a fiddle player and stick to him/her like glue

Thanks for that. I have just the person in mind. Really good fiddle player at our Morris side who I'm sure would be happy to mentor me.
