Title: Now Be Thankful
Post by: gower flower (Shirl) on March 08, 2008, 09:06:02 PM
Hi there Swarb, a slightly cheeky question, I hope you don’t mind. ::)

Now Be Thankful was the first track I ever heard you sing, on a compilation Fairport album I had bought whilst playing “catch up” with all things Fairport, and I love it.

Subsequently I encountered this track on the “Swarb!!!” boxed set. A live version, played at Kenilworth Folk Club in 1976 by the Three Desperate Mortgages. It was very different, as indeed any live version would be. I have to confess that this track gives me the giggles. :-X

I can’t help wondering whether or not the Three Desperate Mortgages were a little “refreshed” on this occasion. Can you enlighten us, please?

v interesting, and somewhat close to the truth but not quite, its not so lteral as this understanding is.It is a hymn however, and it is a song of hope too. but i dont believe it is a christian hymn.I like this interpretation though, a lot, and personally if foks wanted to go with it, then it would be finr by me.
