The studio version is tagged on to the end of The Cropredy Box, which is the official album of the 1997 (30th Anniversary) festival.
I think it is a great track but I remember the band saying at the time that it was a song that Ken Russell himself asked them to record but of a type of fol de rol English folk that they had always previously tried to avoid. I think it is a great track but I remember the band saying at the time that it was a song that Ken Russell himself asked them to record but of a type of fol de rol English folk that they had always previously tried to avoid. Was that documentary ever shown? I was there at Cropredy when they filmed them playing it for the documentary but then never heard any more about it. I always imagined it would be rather odd if Ken Russell was involved... Title: Re: Seventeen Come Sunday Post by: Waterloo Wonderer on March 20, 2008, 11:14:33 AM It was and I taped it. No idea where the tape is now. It may surface if i ever sort out the garage properly.
The whole experience was a little surreal with the band doing it before their shift and wondering which members of the band would be wrestling naked. Title: Re: Seventeen Come Sunday Post by: KascadeDan on March 20, 2008, 01:48:28 PM There's an excellent live version in the Cropredy Capers box. Thank you! Is it worth buying? Coz that's one that I've always been interested in. Title: Re: Seventeen Come Sunday Post by: Big Dave on March 20, 2008, 01:49:55 PM Yes is the simple answer to that one, mind I am a tad biased!

Neither did the guy at Talking Elephant. It is still available, right? It's the box I'd really like to get as well. Will it be available this year? Ye, Ashley's commentary is excellent in briefing you about the bands past! It's worth 9 quid just to have the very best version of 'Rain' ever...still one of my favourite Cropredy performances ever (I was as high as a kite at the time, and it was a delight to realise it sounded as good in 'reality' as it did in my addled brain on the field)....I do hope DAB comes back to Cropredy again soon.... Title: Re: Seventeen Come Sunday Post by: ollythedolly on March 20, 2008, 08:03:28 PM and the quality start to dirty linen!

Also done by the Immaculate Fools (about whom I know nothing) which is available on Cooking Vinyl's "A Feast of Folk" 2cd sampler - which I hope helps keep this on topic (well actually it's not on Topic it's on Cooking Vinyl....) Who does know where the time goes? Thankfully I didn't spot myself in the crowd. Title: Re: Seventeen Come Sunday Post by: KascadeDan on March 21, 2008, 11:31:18 AM I didn't spot myself in the crowd. I have their first two albums and saw them live in the early 80's supporting Tom Robinson. I must try and track this down. It's actually "A Festival of Folk" (1996 DEMPCD 002) now I look more closely. According to the sleevenotes Rain is taken from the album "Woodhouse" COOKCD085. Hope that helps. Title: Re: Seventeen Come Sunday Post by: ollythedolly on March 21, 2008, 06:44:15 PM its all in barford. They don't own the studio (or the Hilton any more(all got sold off when the peggs broke up)) But it is still a studio - great place!
http://www.woodwormmusic.com/ The Hilton/Woodworm studio used to be in Cropredy (by the old post office) But peggy moved to barford and took the names with him.
