Title: Albion Band RULTS Re-union Post by: Ollie on March 27, 2008, 04:07:55 PM Out of boredom, I was just looking through the Q&A section of RT's website, when I came across this...
Quote I see that [cut] geeky question! Graeme Taylor PS. After your Fairport reunion, Ashley is now trying to put together a 'Rise Up Like The Sun' Albion Band rematch... I have a feeling this is the real Graeme Taylor, as I have just found this on his website... Quote I had a long, warm and friendly chat with Ashley Hutchings at the recent BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, regarding a reformation of The Albion Band as featured on the Rise Up Like The Sun album. This is now under discussion between the members of the original band. I really do hope this goes ahead ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: Albion Band RULTS Re-union Post by: davidmjs on March 27, 2008, 04:17:21 PM Wow...you're not alone, Ollie, you're not alone. Could Tams get together the Home Service as well, just to make my joy complete. (Sadly, without Howard Evans, though.) ...and yes, yes, yes to a RULTS reunion as well. Title: Re: Albion Band RULTS Re-union Post by: Jules Gray on March 28, 2008, 09:47:06 AM Do you think RT would join in? I can't see it myself. But Ashley, Simon, DM, Tams et al would still be terrific. Is Julie Covington still around? I used to watch her on Rock Follies when I was a lad.

Jules I don't think she sings nowadays. :( By all accounts, she's seems pretty reclusive these days - more's the pity. Even her official website ceased to be, some time ago. I really love her singing... especially in Rock Follies. First time I heard her was when I went on a school trip to see Godspell - many moons ago (as well as Julie, the cast at the time also included David Essex, Jeremy Irons and Marti Webb). Her version of Only Women Bleed is one of my all time favourite singles. Did she take part in the recent live production of War Of The Worlds do we know? Unfortunately, given her difficulties with live performance, I suspect that Linda Thompson may not be up for this either. Just seen that that the Julie Covington album Julie Covington and Richard and Linda thompson First Light were "done at the same time, recorded together with the same band.Interesting.... Interesting.... Yeah, RT came to guest on Julie's record and was gelling so well with the rhythm section that the First Light sessions were soon booked. I would dearly love to see this line-up live, and a double bill with the Home Service would be just fantastic.

Russell Watson played The Parson, originally done by Phil Lynott. Paul Title: Re: Albion Band RULTS Re-union Post by: Staffan on March 28, 2008, 03:24:52 PM Do you think RT would join in? He has his own tour to do. ;) But I saw the RULTS- line up a couple of times in the late 70s and Graeme T. played in a way that left no wishes for another guitarist. I think he did a terrific job both on record and live but maybe his name isn't as wellknown as RT:s and Jerry D:s for example. Title: Re: Albion Band RULTS Re-union Post by: Barry on March 28, 2008, 04:15:11 PM RT was never part of this line up, so why should he join in? He wasn't even a guest guitarist on the album, just backing vocals on three tracks. ??? Sorry, don't understand.

RULTS is, in my opinion, one of the best albums ever :) :) Indeed the album that started my current music interest going. Well cleaning out 15 Guinea Pigs to the backing of one album week after week, you kind of get addicted ::) ::) Title: Re: Albion Band RULTS Re-union Post by: Jim on March 28, 2008, 04:25:02 PM seeing as how the rise up line up and the home service were more or less the same group with a brass section and a different bass player i would love to see them tour,it would be a must see for anyone with a passing interest in the rock we call folk

Title: Re: Albion Band RULTS Re-union Post by: Simon Withers on March 29, 2008, 09:37:01 AM I love the idea of the 'Rise up' Albion band getting back together to perform and on the note about the Home Service, I'd love to see them play a few shows too. I'd say however that I would like to view any Albion Service / Home Band reformations as two totally different projects rather than some kind of amalgamated event. That I am sure would be unsatisfying for the musicans involved and I guess in reality for most of the audience too.
Several years ago John Tams was going to try and reform the Brilliant Home Service for a show at the Royal Festival Hall(I think this was to be the venue) . Although I am not privileged to any information nor do I wish to speculate I was speaking to Sally Tams (about three weeks ago) after a fine and enjoyable Tams & Coope evening at the Maze in Nottingham. I asked Sally about the aforementioned Home Service gig and it seems that getting the Home Service back together was proving to be rather a complicated affair and although the Will exists for it to happen from the musicians, other factors were making it all rather problematic. Still you never know it would be fantastic if over the next two years we get the Fairport L&L line up on the road, the Albion Band and the Home Service to boot - but not all at the same time please! Title: Re: Albion Band RULTS Re-union Post by: Simon Withers on March 29, 2008, 10:07:16 AM Going off the topic for just a moment, I have just noticed that I have just clocked up my first 24 hrs of reading on the Fairport site, some of you must have put in a good deal more time than I. I guess it will be like carring a life sentence so who has clocked up the most time inside!
Title: Re: Albion Band RULTS Re-union Post by: Polly Oxford (Andie) on March 29, 2008, 11:46:22 PM Oh my what a wonderful thought... RULTS definitely bracketed for all-time-fave, I would be extatic for any combination of that era Albions/Home Service. The thought that this year John Tams and Ashley will be in the same part of Oxfordshire has me holding my breathe...
