Not having a clue what the band is going to play.   ;)

Well I thought lists and discussions about things like this were what this place was (supposed to be) all about....

I don't imagine you're a million miles away with a setlist like that, kascadekid....  :)

Hmmmm...it's the sort of setlist I'd expect to see  ;)

Oh God, you do ask difficult questions...Ummmm, I prefer the acoustic performances in smaller venues.  Er, I'll get my coat...

Ok, then, I'm not a HUGE fan of the current band, most of whose recorded material from the last decade at least does very little for me....  Speaking personally, I'm a fan of what Fairport were, rather than what they are.  Although it makes me a bit sad to say so....

Now that is a surprise. I'd be interested to hear your thinking on those. I'm with you on the others though and share David's sentiments generally.

WKWTTG has had massive exposure over the last few months. I think, like all great songs, a period of rest and contemplation is deserved.

And I don't like "Come All Ye". So sue me.

My reticence about "Happy Man" and KOTTW reflect my reticence ove Chris Leslie songs. Sorry to those that adore 'em, but I'm not a fan of most of his offerings to Fairport. And "Woodworm Swing" I just find twee these days.

It's worth saying that I am in the minority who do like "The Crowd", but I think that a few years need to pass before it returns to the repertoire.

Sincere apologies to anyone having apoplexy at this point.

What are you worth?  ;D

I really liked his stuff on the WKWTTG album & still love John Gaudie which I think is up there in the pantheon of Fairport songs but I agree, it has been the law of diminishing returns since then. There is generally one on each album that I like but there are too many that are too similar. Having said that, I am glad that the band at least has a resident writer rather than having to import all its material from outside. I know it won't sit well with many on TAW but I don't really need to hear Fairport singing too many Ralph McTell songs or inferior covers of Clive Gregson & Andy Partridge.

I'm worth sod all. So sue away. ;D

But I do like John Gaudie. I think Chris' writing can be great, but he writes for his voice / range and although that's understandable, I'd like to hear Simon's superb voice used better.

My fantasy set list;

'Nine' live (the whole album - I think Simons voice matches Tevor's materiel very well, and Chris does a passable Swarb)
>break<
10 songs from the back catalogue that have not been played live in the last ten years (or since release for newer materiel)
>Encore<
Sloth
John The Gun (with a While for the vocal)

More seriously, with such a huge back catalogue it would be great to get away grom 'the usual' more. I used to love 'The Hiring Fair', but I just don't want to hear it any more.

Don't worry, you still won't know - this is just a wish list.

I think Happy Man is a traditional song, not one of Chris Leslie's.

I like Chris's voice and his songwriting but I do prefer a gig to have more of Simon singing.  I would really really like them to have a go at some 'new' traditional songs that they have never done before.

I should really know the answer to this one, but are there any Chris/Simon duets in the repertoire?  Or would that just be a bit...  odd... ?
(Notwithstanding the fact that they each do backing vocals on each others' songs anyway.)

I'd have a complete gig of Chris/Ric fiddle duelling if I could - well, more of that anyway.  Preferably with big effects!

Overall though, it doesn't really matter - whatever they do is fine by me!

Yup, the Happy Man is a Morris dance from Adderbury, where Chris lives.

The newer version of Tam Lin.

Better not. I'd be opening myself up to a counter suit for not liking The Bonny Black Hare & The Bonny Bunch of Roses. Any song with the word "Bonny" in the title in fact!  ;D
