Blimey well spotted Chris - that is indeed rare footage, but where is Ric's hat?

I managed to locate an unopened copy of the Soft Machine CD Ric Sanders played on (Alive and Well in Paris - it's all new material, but was recorded live). Not sure if you can hear Ric much, but then again, it's hard to tell who's doing what in Soft machine. There's a great book about Soft Machine and one of the band members comments that he was bewildered as to why Ric was asked to join (I think Karl Jenkins was the main man at the time and the band had moved very much into jazz/rock territory.) Also managed to get hold of the album Ric and John Etheridge did. It's pretty good British jazz/rock fusion.

Working now. Wonderful stuff! I think Ric should bring a bit of this into Fairport's next album. Ditch the twee stories about Indians and get down to some good old Jazz Folk Rock Fusion!  Typical later era Softs - solos over a repetitive riff. Can't see much of Karl Jenkins in this :)

What a great, funky clip! Quite Brand X-ish - not surprising with Percy's bass prominent.

Terrible that the album is so hard to get... in fact, Out-Bloody-Rageous (coat on...)

Apart from Ric & Percy the line-up (I think) is Karl Jenkins, John Etheridge & John Marshall.

Percy used to live not far from us in Waterloo (Liverpool) & his Liverpool Scene bandmate Mike Evans used to be a regular in the local Housing Association shop where my Mum worked a couple of afternoons a week - buying clobber to wear on stage.
