That's very sad news. We saw Rob at Cropredy in 2007, striding through the field looking totally in control of the situation.

49 is no age to go. My condolences to his family and friends.

How desperately sad.  I had cause to have a few dealings with Rob about 6 years ago and he was absoluletly delightful and ever so friendly whilst being 100 per cent professional and efficient, even when I was making far more work for him than was absolutely necessary!  A great loss indeed....and surely one of the key reasons for Fairport's longevity and continued success.

Very sad,

Condolences to his family, in time I hope it will help to reflect on how much pleasure he helped to bring to so many people.

If each of us could bring 1/100th as much pleasure the world would be a wonderful place.

This is very bad news, one can only echo what others have said.

I was standing near to Rob  when Fairport were onstage at an outdoor gig some years ago. The sound kept going totally but he was totally unfazed - he just uttered a silent curse, ambled down to the stage, up the steps, whacked the offending cable, and ambled back again. He must have done this four or five times. I thought at the time "Wish I was like that!"

RIP Rob, you were a canny lad.

Sad news indeed. Like many I didn't know Rob but when SoN and I were lucky enough to be guests backstage at the Birmingham end-of-tour gig a few years ago Rob was warm and welcoming when SoN and I were just doing our best not to get in the way.

Sincere condolences to Rob's family from SoN and myself.

Very shocked; I didn't know how ill he was. The only time I spoke to him was at the sound desk of a gig in Southend - he was so easy to talk to, and seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say (even though it wasn't very interesting).

My thoughts are with his family.

Wow, that's a shocker. We dealt with Rob twice at the two Fairport gigs we organized and he was most professional/kind in person and was obviously held in high regard by the band. Did wonder why there was no mention of him anymore in recent band activity, never quite got around to asking why (or since when) that was.
That ledge is getting crowded.
RIP, and our condolances to family/friends/Fairport ...

Koen & Renate

As some others have said, I had no idea he had been ill and wondered where he was at Cropredy last year. He contributed so much to the Fairport story over so many years and on the couple of occasions I met him at the office and chatted with him, he came across as such as nice man. So sad for his family and friends, especially at such a young age.

My sincere condolences.

I wonder if Rob being sidelined by illness had a lot to do with FC not visiting the USA last year.  His management skills undoubtedly were a big help in dealing with the challenges of touring the USA, such as the greater travel distances between gigs, and getting good sound in the venues while keeping costs under control.

To say he will be missed is a large understatement.

Cheers ///  Tom M.***

I only found out about Rob's passing whilst reading the tour programme at Yeovil last night.  The lads didn't mention it during the gig, perhaps it's still too keenly felt.

See you on the ledge, Rob; you'll always be the '6th Fairport'. XXX

Only read the sad news today and canīt believe it ! We havenīt been to the festival for a few years due to work commitments - but I remember him like it was only yesterday !
He was such a great guy , with a great sense of humour  - I still wear a T-Shirt he gave to me.
My condolences , if very late but really heartfelt, go to his family and friends - and of course to all Fairporters.
It will be hard to fill the gap he left .

Meet on the ledge, Rob ! :'(

I was also deeply saddened by this news which Andrea conveyed to me today.
We met Rob for the first time 12 years ago whilst working with a band supporting Fairport in Germany and were always greeted with kindness every time we met since then.

He will be missed.

Rock on Rob it was great to have known you.
