Title: Do You Know an Older (closet) FC Fan? Post by: Woodpecker on February 19, 2009, 08:55:26 PM I left home in '71 having spent a couple of years wearing out the family stereo with Unhalfbricking and L&L.
I've been back this weekend to clear out the family home. My dad was 83 last B'day Buried amongst endless different versions of Wagner's Ring Cycle, Richard Strauss and other pretty 'Heavy' orchestral stuff I've found: LPs of Unhalfbricking, L&L, CDs of Sandy and The Attic Tapes. Do you know an older FC fan? (Not including families of band members!) Title: Re: Do You Know an Older (closet) FC Fan? Post by: Speleologist (Robin) on February 20, 2009, 07:22:39 AM My Mum & Dad aged 79 & 78 have been Fairport fans for years. They've been to Cropredy twice and regularly take in Fairport related gigs that occur near to their home. (Winchester). They also came to see Swarb's Lazarus at Farnsfield Acoustic.
My first introduction to folk music came from my Mum's collection of albums by the likes of Ewan McColl, Robin Hall and Jimmy McGregor, The Corries and The Ian Campbell Folk Group. Post by: KascadeDan on February 20, 2009, 08:03:46 AM My grandparents aren't really faiport fans as such, although they do remember alot of the music my mum used to listen to when she was my age, including Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Stackridge and Fairport's 'Babbacombe Lee'
Title: Re: Do You Know an Older (closet) FC Fan? Post by: PaulT on February 20, 2009, 10:37:53 AM My Mum will be 84 in May. She grew to like Fairport through hearing my LPs back in the 70s. I finally took her to see the chaps in Southport in the 80s & she's seen them twice since. Mr Pegg is her favourite.
Her Mum saw Swarb & Martin Carthy in a folk club in Solihull way back in the 60s - and she also was partial to a little Fairport now & then - especially when Swarb was singing. When my 2 sons were younger, they used to play air fiddles to The Bowman's Retreat (complete with "arrow from the quiver" moves) having seen Ric & Chris play it (on video). I wish I could tell him about working with Peggy :'(

What I found so surprising was the fact that my dad kept his interest so secret; anything lighter than Wagner was not really worth bothering with! Title: Re: Do You Know an Older (closet) FC Fan?
