Title: Making a living
Post by: David W on May 18, 2009, 04:15:21 PM
Hi Gareth,

It always looks interesting to me that so many folk (folk rock) musicians seem to be involved with a large number of musical projects at the same time - Peej being a prime example.

Is it viable for a young folk musician to really make the decision to make music their livelihood nowadays or is there always the need to do other things to pay the rent?

Cheers,

David W

Hi David

If you want to go pro it's a very long road before you can afford to start saying no to anything in my veiw. I know this because I've never said no,even if there is no money in it, say yes in the hopes that there might be next time or at least you've got someone who is gonna think you're good egg and may be in a position to help you later on.
It really does come down to basics if you're hungry and you need to eat but you have'nt got a gig then you go and push a wheelbarrow untill you have got a gig! Simple as that. We've all done it.Or at least those that haven't are very few and far between.

Hope this answers your question
Cheers GT
