Title: Melodeons
Post by: Ollie on May 19, 2009, 10:39:50 PM
Hi Geetee.

Just wondering what melodeons you've got? Which is your favourite to play and why?

Also any tips on getting some more interesting bass patterns going (other than oom paa) would be greatly appreciated.  :)

Hi Ollie

At the moment I have two Castanari's Nick and Hasci and a two and a half row Salterelle Connemara.I think that's how you spell all their names? I'd have a look but they're not here.

Re bass patterns; depends what you are doing really,if it's accoustic then I use everything but if it's with the band I tend just to use fundamentals to mark the chord changes and not get in the way of the true bass part.

I'm sure you can appreciate it is not the easiest thing in the world to suggest alternatives to what you already do, without seeing and hearing what that is. You could try (if you don't already) moving your left hand up so that your index finger is not in use all of the time and you are using your 2nd and 3rd finger for the pattern you usualy use. This leaves your index finger to add an additional dimention. It's tricky to start with as it throws your rythme  but it worked for me when I started on 12 bass boxes.

Good luck getting your head round this explanation let alone anything else!
