Title: RT in Performing Musician Post by: ColinB on June 16, 2009, 05:45:35 PM Richard Thompson is featured on the cover of the June edition of Performing Musician mag which I'll admit I've never looked at before let alone bought. The article focuses on his songwriting skills and there's a section on his songwriting method. So it's one mainly for fellow musos though it's interesting to read his thoughts about songs ranging from MOTL to Dad's Gonna Kill Me.
There are two rather obvious errors, one being that he grew up in Notting Hill and the other is they've put the date of the motorway accident as 1972. I feel an email to the editor coming on! Also a good FC pic which must be from 70 or 71. Dig those pink trousers! Notably sans RT! Nice picture though. I must see if I can get hold of a copy of this. Title: Re: RT in Performing Musician Post by: jude on June 16, 2009, 06:29:24 PM He did live in the Notting Hill area (Ladbroke Crescent) till he was about 7, so that isn't an error, but the date of the crash was 1969
Title: Re: RT in Performing Musician Post by: ColinB on June 16, 2009, 09:06:11 PM He did live in the Notting Hill area (Ladbroke Crescent) till he was about 7 I stand corrected. Just as well I didn't send that email - I would have looked a right Charlie! :-[ BTW, there's also an interview with Bill Bruford in the magazine and lots of techie stuff and instrument reviews. Bit of a shampoo shortage along with numerous crimes against even badly-tuned fashion sensibilities... Nice banjos though. Title: Re: RT in Performing Musician Post by: ColinB on June 17, 2009, 03:43:59 PM Crystal Palace bowl, spring/summer 1971. So was that after Richard had left the band or is that him in the white shirt with his back to the camera? Or is he just out of shot? Title: Re: RT in Performing Musician Post by: davidmjs on June 17, 2009, 03:52:10 PM Don't think he is. July 31st 1971, according to this...(you have to scroll down a bit - great website to lose time on, anyway!)

Looks like a stagehand/roadie/punter/ligger to me, rather than RT. This page has a whole load of photos from the performance all sans Richard! https://www.repfoto.com/thumbs.php5?pictno=7107045 and here is proof it was summer 1971 ;D [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: RT in Performing Musician Post by: ColinB on June 17, 2009, 04:14:08 PM That's one impressive line-up. :o 8)
Would have loved to have seen Rory Gallagher. I saw Elton a couple of times in the 80s and Anderson Bruford Wakeman & Howe is as near as I've come to seeing Yes... which is pretty darned close. Title: Re: RT in Performing Musician Post by: AngieH on June 17, 2009, 04:16:43 PM Tickets were £1.25 :)
Title: Re: RT in Performing Musician Post by: Tasha on June 17, 2009, 04:41:41 PM Tickets were £1.25 :) Interesting- in 1972 that would have bought you 20 mars bars as they cost 6p each- today a mars costs what 37p? 20x37=£7.40 hmmmmm :-\ Title: Re: RT in Performing Musician Post by: ColinB on June 17, 2009, 04:57:57 PM Don't think he is. Someone posted on that web site that... "Fairport Convention were wonderful, playing lots of stuff from their latest album, 'Angel Delight'." ... so there would have been just the four of them. |
