Title: Barbican Meetup : 18th July 2009
Post by: Keith on July 04, 2009, 03:23:45 PM
Given how many people are going to the All Star Fairport with Various Other People concert on 18th July, I thought it would be good to have a meetup place, should people arrive early and/or need something to eat with decent beer.

Hence, I am proposing that those who want to, meet at The Fox and Anchor Pub, 115 Charterhouse Street, which is just a couple of minutes walk away from the Barbican Centre in Silk Street.

The link to the pub description is here: http://www.pubs.com/pub_details.cfm?ID=181

and there is a map here: Click this link (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=EC1M+6AA&sll=53.981935,-4.042969&sspn=12.499293,38.847656&ie=UTF8&ll=51.520266,-0.097064&spn=0.003224,0.013572&z=17)

By all accounts the beer is excellent and the food is also very good.

Their website say that they don't do food on Saturdays....(hence why I suggested finding a different pub in the other thread)

Just phoned them, and the pubs.com website is wrong; they serve food until 21:30 on Saturdays, and are happy to do this on a casual basis.

(in bold just to clarify)

Aiming to get there about 17:30, might be earlier, depends on my travelling companions.

Blimey, that has changed since I was last in it in about 1982. In those days the Smithfield pubs used to open at breakfast time as that was the local workforce's going home time after shifting carcasses all night.

I had a slight business involvement with the Royal Smithfield Show and was invited to the pub for a mega breakfast washed down with bitter! The pub was known locally as Big Eve's after the eponyomous landlady. I think if you had asked her if they had bedrooms you'd have got a thick ear. ;D

Enjoy yourselves  :)
