Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: GubGub (Al) on January 04, 2010, 11:40:20 AM The show is sensational. You all should come over to see it! :) I did. Last summer. Has it changed since then? Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: PaulT on January 04, 2010, 07:45:09 PM I heard it was all being done on ice, now that Rick Wakeman's been drafted in on additional keyboards. :o
It's certainly cold enough; I hope the chaps packed their thermals... Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Folkie (Jen) on January 04, 2010, 11:45:48 PM Just back from the show in Mannheim and I thought it was really good! If you can, go and see it, it`s worth it ;D
Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: PL (Peter) on January 05, 2010, 07:36:36 AM We saw the show in Kaltenberg last year - it rained cats and dogs.
So we just had to get tickets for Zurich on 21st Jan - it indoors this time ;D Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: PLW (Peter) on January 05, 2010, 07:52:19 AM Is this ever going to play in the UK?
Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: davidmjs on January 05, 2010, 07:59:52 AM Is this ever going to play in the UK? I'm not quite sure who the audience would be tbh.....can't think it would be economical. Would like to be proven wrong, mind. Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: GubGub (Al) on January 05, 2010, 10:22:07 AM We saw the show in Kaltenberg last year - it rained cats and dogs. So we just had to get tickets for Zurich on 21st Jan - it indoors this time ;D I went the following evening. Beautiful sunshine. Magical night. Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Chris on January 05, 2010, 10:27:31 AM I find the ticket price, combined with travel costs, too much this time - a decent view costs over Ģ80....
Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: PL (Peter) on January 06, 2010, 07:41:37 AM It is expensive. No doubt about that, but you see, down here, we cut down on some other things and treat ourselves to some luxury in order to shorten the time till Cropredy.
Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Chris on January 06, 2010, 11:12:18 AM I wonder if the weathwer iscausing logistics problems?....much snow in Germany Peter?
Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: johanna/ulla on January 06, 2010, 01:14:48 PM I wonder if the weathwer iscausing logistics problems?....much snow in Germany? Up north we had a lot of snow, so the drive from Bremen to Mannheim was 10 hours - instead of 6. And the weather forecast says: A lot of snow for the weekend. The trucks with the stage and all the techs and roadies drive through the night. Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: PL (Peter) on January 07, 2010, 07:37:28 AM Quote I wonder if the weathwer iscausing logistics problems?....much snow in Germany Peter? According to the weather forecast it will be far more than nasty weather during the weekend. Heavy snowfalls - up to 50 cm - are predicted starting Friday noon, >:( accomanpied by gusts of wind and consequently snow banks. I am surely not applying to change with the truck drivers. Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Folkie (Jen) on January 07, 2010, 08:32:45 PM There was snow everywhere in the south when I left this morning and more snowfall is forecast for the region for the weekend.
Was still worth going though =) Jen Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: PaulT on January 11, 2010, 04:13:46 PM There's a comment on the FC site from "Bill" who says the show is sensational - hurrah! (especially Chris' voice), but that Simon wasn't well - boo!
Hope you're (soon) feeling better, Simon. Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Chris on January 11, 2010, 04:15:44 PM At least Simon will have had his Winter cold before their Wintour this year!
Get better real soon, Simon! Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Amethyst (Jenny) on January 11, 2010, 04:19:20 PM Chris had his while he was at Thoresby with the Aggies... :-X
Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: johanna/ulla on January 12, 2010, 09:00:22 AM Jacqui McShee started it, handed the cold over to Clive, he gave it to me, I hugged Simon, ...

Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Angela on January 13, 2010, 11:10:09 PM There's a report from Chris on the tour on the FC website....
http://www.fairportconvention.com/general_news.php#news1 Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Tom64 on January 14, 2010, 09:50:25 PM I saw the show in Munich yesterday and it was quite good.
Simon's voice sounded good, Chris Leslie seems to have caught the bug now, his voice was not as good as usually. But he played perfectly, of course. Surprise for me was Johnny Logan, who sang really good, and impressed my boys (15 and 16). They know of course that they have to be impressed more by the members of Fairport... Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Grace on January 15, 2010, 08:36:29 PM I'm afraid that I am with Chris on this one, I would have loved to have seen the show in either Hannover or Frankfurt, but the ticket price, airfares, taxi and hotel costs for 2 or 3 of us is just not in the realms of the do-able at this time. I am really miffed :'(
Ulla, please say hello from me Grace Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: johanna/ulla on January 18, 2010, 08:13:14 AM Ulla, please say hello from me Grace Iīll be in Stuttgart tomorrow and Iīll say hello from you :-* Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Amethyst (Jenny) on January 18, 2010, 10:15:54 AM Pugwash missed them in Munich by a couple of days!!
Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: johanna/ulla on January 20, 2010, 10:59:44 AM It was a very good night in Stuttgart. Nice audience, 2 encores.
Now Iīm looking forward to Frankfurt on Saturday. Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: PL (Peter) on January 22, 2010, 07:52:56 AM Great show in Zurich yesterday evening.
We saw it the second time (after Kaltenberg last year) and not being wet wasn't the only difference. All artists performing impressively tight. The "house band" really holding the whole thing together and pushing it at the same time. J Logan sang his socks off but giving you - positive - shivers were Simon, Chris and J McShee. Voices in great form. Thank you for a wonderful show. (only drawback was the (Swiss) audience, which seemed a bit restrained ) Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: PaulT on January 22, 2010, 04:16:05 PM I'd be interested to hear what people make of Corvus Corax...?
Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Tom64 on January 24, 2010, 12:00:47 PM In the Munich show of Excalibur they were impressive to look at, but not too
much was heard of them, unfortunately. When leaving the concert hall I heard some people talking about them, they seemed to be fans and were quite disappointed, that there wasn't more of them in the show. But I think that was part of the marketing concept to get a lot of names on the posters and a lot of fans to buy tickets. It definitely worked for the Fairport fan writing here, but honestly I think the show wouldn't have suffered if there had been no Alan Parsons or no BJH (sorry I am too lazy to look up the name). Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: johanna/ulla on January 25, 2010, 11:17:36 AM It definitely worked for the Fairport fan writing here, but honestly I think the show wouldn't have suffered if there had been no Alan Parsons or no BJH (sorry I am too lazy to look up the name). You mean Les Holroyd and you are right, he canīt sing anymore. On Saturday I left the venue during his second song because I could not stand it any longer to hear him trying to hit the notes. The Corvus Corvax have a very faithful following. The band played at the after show party on Saturday till 3 in the morning and we danced and had a lot of fun. I think that Peggy will book them for Cropredy. Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: PaulT on January 25, 2010, 11:35:16 AM I do hope so...!

I really like his song on the Anne De Bretagne album. It is my favourite track on the record. Admittedly though he was all over the place during the ADB & Excalibur shows last summer. In Zurich he succeeded hitting the notes about half the time. Corvus Corax though they would be great at Cropredy - lets say Thursday evening ? Imagine their version of Carmina Burana - now, that would be something for a change, wouldn't it ? OH YES!!!! {:-) Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: PaulT on January 26, 2010, 12:33:40 PM With full orchestra & chorus. And the band brought to the stage in a chariot (pulled by Wadworth's dray horses). ;)
Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Shankly (Peter) on January 27, 2010, 07:40:46 AM Is it OK to mention Dimeadozen on here? If so, the Frankfurt show is currently available there. If not, I won't say anything. ;)

Done right, it could attract audiences similar in size to Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Riverdance. That's nothing to sneeze at - they play in Peoria as well as New York and L.A. Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: davidmjs on February 01, 2010, 07:44:57 AM I'm really sorry but I was happier with the Earth, Wind & Fire than I was with the recording of this show. It just doesn't work for me :-[

Seems he may be a closet fan of Jonathan Ross..... :o Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: Bob Barrows on February 01, 2010, 11:57:40 AM I'm really sorry but I was happier with the Earth, Wind & Fire than I was with the recording of this show. It just doesn't work for me :-[ The plagiarism issue aside, there were some very enjoyable moments ... interspersed with a whold lot of "I wish they'd stop talking in a foreign language and get back to playing music" moments. In fact, if forced, I'd go so far as to say i actively disliked a fair bit of it...! Title: Re: Excalibur Tour Post by: martin driver on February 01, 2010, 01:34:17 PM The Earth Wind & Fire tune Bob is thinking of is called "Fantasy" which I think kind of sits rather well with the fantasitical Arthurian legends

Excalibur III out in November I see. He sang it but surely Alan Simon and James Wood wrote it (or Maurice White, depending on how you look at it).
