I really like your Freehand CD with Joe :o Who wrote the words for the Lion? ??? Do you have any plans to record together again? The world will be a better place if you do! :-* Title: Re: Freehand songs Post by: Cocker Freeman on October 16, 2009, 04:49:49 PM Here, Angel, why don't you just ring him up?
I've not heard this album, by the way, but a combination of Dempsey/Broughton sounds very interesting indeed. Sorry, no question just yet for you Kevvo. :) Title: Re: Freehand songs Post by: Zoe on October 16, 2009, 05:00:40 PM No question yet but I love this album too, Prossima Volta is just beautiful and Leaving in a hurry blues very clever.

well, I wrote the words for 'The Lion'. You didn't say wether or not you thought they were any good, so maybe I should of asked you that first. Should I tell you what I was thinking when I wrote it or............... Joe and I are recording again, in fact yesterday we did the first mix, of one track that is, not the whole thing. The track is called 'The Recovery Shuffle' recorded immediately after leaving court in Birmingham. I was appealing against my driving ban. kev Title: Re: Freehand songs Post by: Cocker Freeman on October 16, 2009, 05:23:29 PM How did you get on, Kev? Or shouldn't I ask?

Of COURSE I like the words to the Lion. I think it's a very complex song which goes in a range of interesting directions. Angel {:-) Title: Re: Freehand songs Post by: kevin dempsey on October 17, 2009, 01:19:24 PM Hi there Angel,

I've worked with Joe quite alot over the last six or seven years. We've made two albums so far 'Every other World' and 'Freehand', and we're recording the third one now, in fact we have just mixed the first track, that I mentioned to someone on this site already, 'The recovery Shuffle'. The first time I met Joe was probably 20 years ago, Whippersnapper (3 piece) had just come back from Porugal and we we're playing at Burnley Mechanics, and af6er the gig Joe came up with his mum (he was 13) and had a chat with me and Chris Leslie. Chris handed over his fiddle and Joe played for us for a few minutes, even then it was stunning!! I met him a few times after that at different gigs and events and then one day he rang up and asked if he could come over and have a play which he did and we've been playing together ever since. We've done quite a lot of festivals, home and abroad as well as lots of folk club and arts cenret gigs, and are quite busy in December then January 2010 as well as April and may 2010. We run a course together if france, usually the first week of July,(www.creativevacances.com) and due to that week being booked out already are lookin at anotrher week in early september. Check out our Myspace site. Anyway, that's about it, thanks kev |
