Title: Improvisation?
Post by: RobertD on October 27, 2009, 02:38:43 PM
Hi Kevin-glad you're on here. A few years ago there was a Transatlantic reissue of Swarb, which on the second disc had some live material from Whippersnapper. The final track is a medley of Sean Van Vought and Give Me Your Hand. Before the segue into Give Me Your Hand you and Martin play a very impressive sounding duet, both of you trading off one another. Was wondering if you remember playing this, and was it based around a loose melody of the first tune, or was it straight improvisation? Very, very tasty playing!

Hi Robert,

I remember it well, the improvisation was based on a tune called 'Footprints' by Pat Matino. It was something I heard when I was living in america and really liked. As the 'rythmn' section in whippersnapper we didn'tr get that much opportunity to improvise so it was nice to get a bit in. Glad you enjyed it.
As a favour to me could you let me know the album details, that one passed me by,
many t hanks

Thanks Kevin...going to have to check out Footprints now! The CD was a two cd set called It Suits Me Well-The Transatlantic Anthology. First disc was Swarb's earlier material mostly drawn from Swarb 1 and 2. Second disc had a BBC collection of Swarb, the Mariotts, Nicol, Pegg and Timi Donald, as well as the Whippersnapper tracks which were Noble Square Dance, John Gaudie (they spelled it Goudy though for some reason!), Whenever, and the medley I asked about. Think it came out in 2005, but I may be wrong. Cheers, thanks for the answer.
