Imagine my surprise when I opened a certain photography mag today!

I thought the superb noise control was down to Simon Tassano.....

I wave a camera around a lot and have a moderate knowledge of things RT, but can't fathom this.

Do please expand as I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.

Simon Tassano does RT's live sound.

The caption says "Incredibly high sensitivity and superb noise control" right? And it's referring to a camera. But it is imposed over a picture of Richard Thompson (presumably this picture was taken with said camera and is being used to demonstrate the capabilities of this model), whose sound man is Simon Tassano. Do you see - the co-incidence of the caption being applied to one matter, whereas we perceive it to be appropriate to a second? The humour lies in the juxtaposition between the two. Or not, as may be.

It's the front page of a piece of advertising puffery for N*kon within a certain photo mag. Said mag normally falls in adoration in front of C*non every issue, so I was somewhat surprised!

I just thought that "high sensitivity and superb noise control" was quite a good caption for a picture of RT, not that he got a credit. Bet he uses a Pentax.

Simon Tassano is a sound guy in every sense, top chap.

Digital cameras that emit a noise like a mechanical shutter. Can anyone please explain why the noise is deemed neccesary ?
Annoying in the extreme when you are at a concert, surrounded by cameras being pointed by people who seem to have little or no interest in listening to the music..

It's precisely so that people know they're having a picture taken of them. There are circumstances where this may be deemed appropriate. Or innappropriate, as it were.

If it is a digital SLR - the noise you hear IS mechanical.

Shane, even on stage in one of those lovely Ippo pubs you would do well to hear when you were having your picture taken.
Where as everyone within 2 yards of the camera would hear and know it. I stand by my point, it's annoying when you are trying to listen to music

All i can see is the text. Hence my confusion.
I imagine it's because i am still, apparently, anonymous.

Never mind...

Fegg, you should be able to see a section on the homepage entitled Anonymous (or something like that) which should tell you how to become unanonymoused, or the reasons why you are anonymous.. I believe you just have to send an email to the Admins, saying a bit about yourself and you'll no longer be anonymous...

If you have already done so, there may be a reason why the email hasn't got to them so try again ;D

Thanks for your helpful comment last week. I did post in the anonymous section, way back in August, when I first joined. However, I received no reply from Colin(?), although he did 'unanonymise' others in similar circumstances. I see it has since disappeared so i am at a bit of a loss but can now see the limitations attached to the situation! Not wishing to bore anyone else with this on the open list, perhaps you could contact me offlist (though i am not at the home email address until tonight).

Hi Fegg.

I suspect that was the problem - that you asked in August.. there tends to be a whole mass of new members just after Cropredy, and probably your email just got missed..

Would you mind please asking again by the same process and I have asked the Admins to keep an eye open  for it?
