Title: Fotheringay cover art Post by: Edthefolkie on December 10, 2009, 02:55:11 PM This has been bugging me for nearly 40 years!
Marion Appleton did the cover painting for the (first) Fotheringay album - see below. I'm sure it's a sort of homage to a Tudor or early Stuart painting - I made the connection as soon as I bought the original vinyl album in 1970. Trouble is, I couldn't then remember what the original painting was and haven't seen it since. The original has a bunch of fancily dressed courtier types holding lutes etc in a similar pose to Sandy, Trev, Jerry, Pat and Gerry. I know Joe Boyd thought the album art was cr*p but he may have missed the connection. I also believe the Scissor Sisters in their turn posed for a shot on one of their albums which resembled the Fotheringay cover. Any ideas anybody?
