Title: RT recording new songs on the road Post by: ColinB on December 20, 2009, 07:55:25 PM From the latest Beesweb email...
Quote These performances will be part of a special RT tour with a full band performing two full sets. The first half will be brand-new, never heard before material, and will be recorded live at the show for inclusion on Richard's upcoming CD. This process is a rarity in today's music scene, where artists typically spend weeks or months in the studio recording new material. The second half of the show will include Richard Thompson classics from his over 40 years in the music business. Michael Jerome (drums) Taras Prodaniuk (bass) Pete Zorn (multi-instruments, background vocals) Joel Zifkin (violin) The tour runs from February 15 - 25, 2010 with dates in Seattle, Portland, Eugene, Arcata & San Francisco. I'm not an expert on the Dead, but aren't these just general live albums rather than whole albums of new material recorded live?Live Dead - mostly new material with the exception of St. Stephen Skull&Roses: new material with the exception of The Other One (first appeared on Anthem) Europe 72 - half&half mixture of old and new material - mostly from American Beauty and Workingman's Dead, but China Cat Sunflower from Aoxomoxoa does appear Bear's Choice - Except for Black Peter (Workingman's Dead), this is material that had previously not been released but had been part of their stage act for years Title: Re: RT recording new songs on the road Post by: Nick the Stick on December 24, 2009, 12:25:08 PM Just seen this, rehearse a tight band, and record some new material on stage...what a great idea ! I swear I saw him smoking, fiddling and singing all at the same time. But let's face it, he can walk on water so it's not surprising. Title: Re: RT recording new songs on the road Post by: arie on December 30, 2009, 12:21:06 PM Well, I admire Swarb as much as everybody, but AFAIK he nearly drowned thanks to the smoking
Title: Re: RT recording new songs on the road Post by: GubGub (Al) on December 30, 2009, 12:22:36 PM I can't help feeling that we have drifted badly off topic here.
Title: Re: RT recording new songs on the road Post by: arie on December 30, 2009, 12:24:50 PM Sorry about that, I got carried away, playing Tim Hart (& Maddy Prior) - Summer Solstice the last few days
Title: Re: RT recording new songs on the road Post by: arie on December 30, 2009, 12:30:15 PM and although it still isn't on the topic of RT and/or recording new songs on the road I like to mention Roy Wood here as an example of somebody who has mastered both string and wind instruments. Don't know about mid song

Getting back on topic (sort of), has anyone else noticed the similarity between the character Tim Blake Nelson played in The Darwin Awards and RT? http://www.hotflick.net/pictures/006TDA_Tim_Blake_Nelson_004.html Title: Re: RT recording new songs on the road Post by: jjjudy on December 30, 2009, 07:39:07 PM On the off-chance there is anyone reading this thread who might actually be interested in the event, a warm-up show has been added -- to begin the tour -- Thursday 11 February at Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles! Very small venue.
Title: Re: RT recording new songs on the road Post by: Neil on January 23, 2010, 07:21:42 AM Well I succumbed, or rather my wife did and two tickets for Feb 16th have been purchased, should be interesting when you are guaranteed that a fair amount of the show will be of unknown material to the audience. Also surprising as he has often criticized live albums although culling an album from a series of shows will provide enough quality control I am sure. Anyway I will let you all know although I will undoubtedly forget all the song titles and the running order and the review will be rubbish ;D
The last time I saw RT at the Aladdin with the band the lady in front of me sat with her fingers in her ears and tears in her eyes, rock'n'roll lives on;D |
