Title: Cover versions? Post by: ThomA on April 12, 2010, 04:06:04 PM Hi Iain, I'm afraid to say that as a relative newcomer to your solo work, I've only got a few of your albums (up to Some Days You Eat The Bear), and haven't had the opportunity to explore beyond that. But, I do enjoy the different interpretations and cover versions on those albums, and wondered if you had any more particular songs (from the same time period, or more recently) that you'd like to cover?
Also, on a tangent, was the collection three Byrds-related cover versions on Journeys from Gospel Oak (Dillard & Clark's Polly, Sing Me Back Home, and Do Right Woman) a deliberate homage, or was it just a coincidence in terms of influence? Title: Re: Cover versions? Post by: thatswine on April 13, 2010, 11:33:41 AM I always have covers up my sleeve. An ever growing book full of them in fact. There are too many wonderful songs floating around to ignore.

My vote is for his take on Peter Gabriel's Mercy Street 8) I think that is very fine. Cheers Nick Title: Re: Cover versions? Post by: Barry on April 14, 2010, 06:57:47 PM As I've said elsewhere, Iain's cover of "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" at Cropredy 1986 is one of only two covers of that song that I like. Have to say also that I loved the whole "No Grey Faith" project covering Sandy's songs.

Title: Re: Cover versions? Post by: Polly Oxford (Andie) on April 27, 2010, 01:59:30 PM I'm still in 2 minds about 'MOTL' - I think it's the only not full Fairport/RT version I know and it stops me in my tracks every time it comes out of the random hat.
Title: Re: Cover versions? Post by: Ian B Grunt on May 08, 2010, 05:46:59 PM So here's one for the Talkawhilers... What do you reckon is Iain's best cover? Darkness, Darkness is my personal favourite. I nearly wept when Iain played it at a show earlier this year. |
