Title: The Eighties
Post by: Tasha on April 18, 2010, 10:51:50 AM
Hi Iain and thanks for coming on here! What i'd like to ask is about the early Eighties when its said that you felt you'd lost direction with your music and "gave it up" for a while. Was that a reflection of the times as well as yourself?  - for me the early 80's was a barren time musically with but a few gems emerging.

I didn't have that feeling of the 80's. People say they had a hard time finding decent music, but that wasn't my experience. Maybe you didn't look hard enough! I've never seen a decade where I wasn't gobsmacked by music.
My temporary retirement was completely self imposed and all about how I felt, about what I was doing. I don't think one ever understands burnout, until we step back and look at the feelings it brings up. I have to say, maybe more musicians should consider it, rather than plowing on through, making average statements.
