Title: Trevor Lucas Live / Swarbrick+Nicol Live?
Post by: samnitzberg (Sam) on April 21, 2010, 02:44:21 AM
Anyone know if this:
http://www.amazon.com/Live-at-Troubadour-Trevor-Lucas/dp/B0038AMWA0/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1271814065&sr=1-5
is actually new unreleased stuff?

And what might this be?

This is volume 2 of the attic tracks which was available on cassette for many years, a quick google will give you all the details you will ever need

Is there much on the first Attic Tapes CD worth hearing?  I have all of Sandy's other releases, are the tracks duplicates of otherwise available stuff?  And the Trevor stuff on there - what era is that?

There's a lot of good stuff on there but some of it has subsequently appeared on the reissues of the studio albums. Worth a look to see what is not duplicated but I am at work at the moment so have no access to the CDs in order to do so. I remember really liking the Attic Tracks when I first got it. The Trevor stuff on there is pretty good too.

If you can get back to me on this one, Gub, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Some, but not all, right?  So it's still worth having?

Thanks for the info, Ian.

It appears that all of the Sandy stuff is available elsewhere, mostly on A Boxful Of Treasures (I must get that!)

That is a great site. I had forgotten about it but have used it previously to wade my way through the maze of Ashley Hutchings recordings.

Available elsewhere or not, I like the sequence on Attic Tracks, or am I alone in still playing a CD straight through?

Tears, a different version of Losing Game and the unenhanced live tracks from the Royalty are the only exceptions I can spot. Am I missing anything?

Just looking at the track listing of A Boxful Of Treasures, there seems to be very little on it that I don't have one way or another. Disc 5 seems to be the exception but £40 is a lot of money for one disc. Sorry, we seem to have wandered off topic. Perhaps a mod can split this out to a seperate Attic Tracks/Sandy thread?

No.  It's still one of my all time favourites and plays all the way through beautifully.

Might be worth waiting and seeing what they put on the new boxed set that's in the works, Gub.

Another one??? This will be the fourth Sandy box by my reckoning!

You beat me to it! ;)

Even if several tracks can be found elsewhere it´s a beautifully and lovingly compiled album, very good in it´s own right.

I notice that Trev at  "The Troubadour" has had "Forever Young" shaved off it.

Altogether, the Australian Friends Of Fairport put out 6 cassettes, the 2 "Here Live Tonight"s and 4 Attic Tracks cassettes - details of which are at http://www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/~zierke/sandy.denny/records/attictracks.html   All came out in the late 80s - early 90s.

This TL CD came as a surprise to me but John Penhallow, who compiled the original cassettes, had a hand in this too.   Apparently, the sound is very good for an off-the-desk recording of the era, and the packaging contains some unreleased pics of Trevor backstage at Cropredy.

I didn't notice the lack of Forever Young - though it's quoted in the sleeve notes!

On further inspection of the cover (I have that but not the CD yet), Forever Young is indeed included, last track.

So, I have the 'Close to the White Bear' album.  Do I need 'In the Club' as well?  Are they very different?

Advice, please.

There are five previously unreleased tracks:

After the Thrill
Friars Britches/Lark in the Morning
Planxty Morgan/Long Odds
Over the Lancashire Hills
O’Carolan’s Farewell to Music

and two more that only appear on Another Fine Mess

Flitter Dance/Peter O'Tavy/Mona's Delight/Hunt the Wren
Merry Boys of Greenland/Olifjord Jack/Willafjord

I love all three albums and think they are definitely worth having ... but then I'm biased :D
