Title: Angel Delight Lyrics
Post by: gower flower (Shirl) on January 23, 2011, 01:47:22 PM
Okay folks, I am certain this has cropped up before, so if necessary Mods, do yer stuff.

I can never get to grips with that bit of the song "Dave the drum who was passing by, bought the toy with a coin he'd picked up. You should have seen the gleam in his eye..................." okay guys and gals, you get the drift.  :P

I was listening to Angel Delight t'other day, and as it goes, marvelling at the power of Swarb's vocals, but this particular lyric always leaves me in the dark.

Can anyone help?

...soon, his, cleaned-up, shined-up.

Hope this helps!

I should have said

"...as he saw it soon, his, cleaned-up shined-up."

Well there were three Daves the nickname "Dave the Drum" could refer to. Pegg, Mattacks or Swarbrick.  ;)

John the Wood = John Wood
Dave the Drum = DM
Simon (who spies the bathroom door with an herbal shampoo in his hand) = SN
The Mighty Glydd(sp?) = Swarb
And Pegg on the bass I believe is Dame Peggy Ashcroft

The Mighty Glydd(sp?) = Swarb

Apparently not, I've been told that it's Robin Gee, who was FC's road manager at the time.

Actually, thinking about it, I'll have a stab as to why he's called the Mighty Glydd - I reckon he was really Robin Glydd but he called himself Robin Gee (as in, G for Glydd) professionally, because Glydd's not a very rock'n'roll name.

Talking of whom, his sleeve notes were headed "Extract from a forthcoming book". Did the book ever come forth?

Evening all, long time daily lurker here........................

You are correct sir ! I AM the Mighty Glydd, somehow the 'I' got changed to 'Y', it was a nickname that came from a Pete and Dud sketch in Not Only... But Also.

As for the 'forthcoming book', yeah I've thought about it on and off over the years and although I do for some reason still have an elephants memory of the very interesting times back then it's probably not on the cards.
Let sleeping dogs lie and all that.( Unless someone wants to offer me a million dollar advance, jewellery will do )
I feel it's all rather personal and not for public consumption, as Peggy always used to say, one just has to 'bollock on'. :)

Robin, if you're still reading this thread - any chance of some anecdotes about the Angel/lorry interface scenario?  ;) Were you actually in the house at the time?

Worked in the music business (management) until the early 80's, got fed up with the silly games and got out, then,  by a twist of fate found myself on the Radio for 15 years, I still work for one of the major stations in town (we don't have DJ's! ;)), actually love going to work in the morning , it keeps me young, still have a senile delinquent's musical taste ..speaking of which, gotta run.......  :)

Notice how he runs away before we can ask him about the high heels and a snow white trusseau?   ;D

Just reminded myself of the superb parody version co-written here last time there was an Angel Delight lyric thread:-

Col the YABB went out one day
To view the scene on a new computer
There he saw a child at play
Having fun with a WiFi router

Cock the Free who was sailing by
Thrashed the child with dredgers boathook
Angered by the dredging life
And the tax on fags that the government took

La la la la la la la la la la la la la etc.....

Hmmm...maybe we should finish that.  Work of genius if you ask me!
