Title: Fairport Songbook Three and the Dave Swarbrick Fiddletune Book
Post by: Maart on February 16, 2011, 12:43:12 AM
Hi all

I'm about to start notation work on a third FC songbook, as there have been several albums since FC Songbook One v2.0 (2004), which included songs from the first FC songbook that I did as well as songs up to XXXV. There are fairly regular inquiries about a few songs from Songbook Two (1998) which is long out of print, so I'd like to ask the Talkawhile faithful if there are any requests for songs from Songbook Two to be included in Songbook Three.

The Dave Swarbrick Fiddletune Book, which was shelved a while back due to too much other work distracting my attentions, is also back on the agenda, and purports to be a complete-ish collection of the maestro's œuvre, arranged chronologically, so that it will be easy to play along with the albums in the right order.

The Richard ThompSongbooks have been very successful and that was such a great project. I learned so much.

Let's hear from you

I don't really mind, all I can say is YAYY!! ;D

Would it not be easier to do a Songbook 2 v2.0?

You have done a few songs from Babbacombe Lee. How about a full score  :) There was a piano transcription available in the 70s, but it would be nice to have a properly written version, with the vocal harmonies.

Hi, Maart,

I have Songbook 2 so don't need to have any repeats from it in Songbook 3 (but then I'm just being selfish!), but I'd definitely support Paul's suggestion of a complete Babbacombe Lee.  ;)

(No thought not... coat on....)

I've read about the alternative version, can someone PM me the lyrics (assuming they're too risque to post on the forum) ??

Brilliant, thanks for that! Derek and Clive seem quite tame by comparison.

Hi Maart,

Is there any chance Travelling by Steam could make it onto V3? And maybe Slip Jigs and Reels?

Cheers,
Laurence

P.S good luck with it.

That's handy,  I needed a new song for summer camp.

I agree with Clive here. I'd rather not have repeats from 2, but all new material on 3.

I also vote for all-new material in Songbook 3.  I'd love to see any or all of the following included: Light of Day, Heart of the Song, I'm Already There, Untouchable, and anything aside from the title track & Ukulele Central off of Festival Bell.

Songbook Three would be great, but as I have One and Two, I don't need any repeats.

I don't have either of the earlier versions, so including John Lee would be splendid, thanks for asking!

Remember to be careful that your fingers don't fly off into the audience...
