Title: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: Nick on July 30, 2011, 07:49:57 PM For some reason or other, round about now, at the Cambridge Folk Festival, Richard Thompson is singing Who Knows Where The Time Goes ... With Stephen Mangan.
Ok, so anyone any idea why?! Cheers Nick Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: Dan O. on July 30, 2011, 07:56:59 PM Got this bizarre news earlier from Stephen Mangan's Twitter feed, an unlikely sounding combination - RT and Dr Guy Secretain from Green Wing ???
Tweeted him back with a request for Youtube footage, watch this space... Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: giottoscircle (Robert) on July 30, 2011, 11:49:21 PM Stephen was surprisingly good. Very mannered voice abit like Nick Drake. Not certain why it happened but not unpleasant
Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: Nick on July 31, 2011, 12:26:41 AM He has apparently been having lessons from Martin Simpson for the last month or so. I think this might have been for a TV thing. Still, quite a strange thing to have happened...
Cheers Nick Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: Ollie on July 31, 2011, 01:07:07 AM We saw him setting up with Martin during the sound check. It caused much confusions amongst the crowd... "isn't that the bloke from Green Wing?". Interesting end to an otherwise storming set.
Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: JeremyRS on July 31, 2011, 09:05:48 AM I had no idea who he was until I googled him just now. He did ok, and it was an outstanding set from Mr Thompson. That, plus Justin Townes Earle and Frank Turner (who predictably brought out the"disgusted of Cambridge" minority - "that's not folk!", "he swore!") the best things so far, with the Secret Sisters (vastly overrated) and Feufollet (about as cajun as Shania Twain is country) the worst. Good year overall so far though.
Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: Brendan on July 31, 2011, 09:33:49 AM It did emerge on Would I Lie to You, that Stephen Mangan was in a prog rock band while at college, called Aragon, I think he said they recorded an album called "The Wizards Dream".
Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: Dad Volt on July 31, 2011, 10:15:32 AM I recall an eighties prog band called Aragon but they were Australian (IIRC) However it is entirely plausible there was more than one. :-)
Edit: Yep just had a quick look round variuos prog forums the band I remember were Australian, the possibility has been raised that he is in fact "Having a laff" Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: Neil Morrell on July 31, 2011, 04:39:07 PM Could it be in preperation for another series of Green Wing?

Cheers Nick Link posted on RT's site yesterday. http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/martin_adds_another_string_to_actor_s_career_in_tv_role_1_3736649 Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: Bob Barrows on September 07, 2011, 03:10:22 PM ... and Feufollet (about as cajun as Shania Twain is country) This puzzles me. How are they not cajun? Is it the lack of the screechy-voiced singer? I enjoyed what I heard, but then again, I don't like a lot of cajun, so maybe you do have a point. Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: Shane (Skirky) on January 12, 2012, 06:51:05 PM Coming soon on Sky Arts...

Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: GubGub (Al) on February 03, 2012, 11:17:12 AM Did anybody see this?
I watched it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought everybody came out of it wonderfully. Stephen Mangan always seems to come across well as himself. In fact I tend to prefer him as himself than the roles he plays. As for RT, his generosity of spirit and the twinkle in his eye were there for all to see. Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: Shane (Skirky) on February 03, 2012, 11:50:43 AM We were congratulating ourselves on not watching any TV for three days at Kirk Central when I realised that the only thing I actually did want to watch had been and gone. Fortunately it's on Sky Anytime until close of play today so I hope to watch it this evening.

Title: Re: RT and Stephen Mangan at Cambridge Post by: Anne Dunn on February 03, 2012, 09:18:59 PM Yes, wasn't it good - and everywhere they went was somewhere I've been. Quite emotional at the end - wish I'd been there.
