Title: Fairport Christmas Album - pipedream? Post by: David W on November 24, 2011, 09:45:35 AM OK all, we know of the wonderful Albion Bands Christmas albums, St Agnes Fountain also but if Fairport did a Christmas album what tracks would we like them to cover, maybe some traditional stuff, Christmas classics etc.
Howabout Simon taking lead vocals in Lonely this Christmas, Peggy taking on Stop the Cavalry, and a great fiolk/rock version of While Shephards Watch to the tune of Ilkley Moor. Post by: Big Martin on November 24, 2011, 01:14:05 PM Would be great - another version to add to my While Shepherds Watched collection. ;D Nahum Tate's finest hour (or at least better than his lyrics for Purcell's Dido & Aneaes, which the choir I'm in is learning now).

Title: Re: Fairport Christmas Album - pipedream? Post by: Andy Tuck on November 24, 2011, 09:38:58 PM I like folk Christmas albums, can't see why all the negativity here. Kerfuffle released a beautiful album a couple of years ago and Kate Rusby has just released a second Christmas CD, also great.
Bring it on! Title: Re: Fairport Christmas Album - pipedream? Post by: bassline (Mike) on November 24, 2011, 10:01:46 PM It's not exactly folk, but A Twisted Christmas by Twisted Sister takes some beating - to be better or worse, though is up to you to decide..

Haha... you never know... The Aggies show always finishes with a uke ensemble... so it could just happen... ;D ;D Title: Re: Fairport Christmas Album - pipedream? I posted a link to the 12 Days of Xmas (Twisted version) on the Xmas songs thread and just seen this... nice one Mike Title: Re: Fairport Christmas Album - pipedream? Post by: bassline (Mike) on November 25, 2011, 05:12:21 PM It'll probably be the only festive album other than Phil Spector's I'll play this Christmas.I saw Twisted Sister a few years back, when they announced that the show I was at was the last night of the tour, because they'd cancelled the other dates to fly back to the States to record a Christmas album.I thought they were joking. When it came out I just had to hear it.It is indeed brilliant.
Title: Re: Fairport Christmas Album - pipedream? Post by: Will S on November 25, 2011, 06:23:48 PM I thought this was going to be news about the album of re-recordings that was originally announced as 'to be ready for Christmas', or some such wording, or about the live recording of Babbacombe Lee. Anyone heard anything about when either of these might be out?
Title: Re: Fairport Christmas Album - pipedream? Post by: dooovall [Daniel] on November 26, 2011, 10:25:21 PM I'd rather have a Fairport Halloween album. There's an old American folk song called Skin & Bones that would be perfect for inclusion.
Title: Re: Fairport Christmas Album - pipedream? Post by: Jonathan on November 29, 2011, 02:39:35 AM I don't know, Christmas albums have never done much for me... That being said, I think Fairport could do a great job at it. Actually, what I think would be really good would be an instrumental Christmas album. Nothing against anyone's vocals, but I think they could do a really fantastic instrumental Christmas album. I just prefer Christmas music instrumental, I suppose...
Title: Re: Fairport Christmas Album - pipedream? Post by: Amethyst (Jenny) on November 29, 2011, 09:35:14 AM For a wonderful instrumental 'Christmas' album... try Simon Mayor's 'Winter with Mandolins'.
Title: Re: Fairport Christmas Album - pipedream? Post by: gower flower (Shirl) on November 30, 2011, 12:18:56 AM No, please no! There are plenty of Christmas albums out there as it is, some of them good, some less so. Simon already features with The Albion Band, Chris with the Aggies. Enough already. ::)
