There seems to be something of a Cropredy theme to it. In 2013 they go into their 25th anniversary year, no mean achievement and one of the few remaining glossy print magazines to feature Folk, Roots, Blues, Country music et al. As an independent magazine R2 has a healthy mix of "new upcoming acts" featured alongside well established international artists. In this corporate world there aren't too many opportunitys for unknowns to get a hearing. I used to subscribe to "Folk on Tap" if anyone remembers that magazine. Sadly I think it folded around 2005 or 2006 and whilst the online mags do a good job there's still something about being able to have a physical, transportable, copy of a music mag which is pleasurable. I'd like to think R2 can continue for another 25 years. If enough of us care about it then I guess it has a chance. |
