Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: Andy on January 25, 2013, 01:03:02 AM I wish I could make any of these - and Bacup is 4 hours away.

Maybe you'll get a free chest from Iain if you make it from Swansea in 4 hours (and I know what Google Maps says). 5 hours minimum (unless done in the depth of night). Anyway, if you really want to see one, Lichfield or Leomington Spa are considerably closer to Swansea than Bacup Football Club. That's arguably a little harsh...but... They look like they have taken a lot of time and love to create. The price quoted however is clearly preposterous. Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: Henry Tompkins (Pete) on January 25, 2013, 06:53:37 PM My Grandchildren made some very similar looking boxes last year at school.
What would we consider a reasonable price to pay for one of Iain's? * Sorry * Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: RobertD on January 25, 2013, 07:10:19 PM It is steep but it does look very well put together in the pictures...with articles and photos strategically placed and mounted....not just slapped on the box with no thought to it. In addition, the mementos themselves are a rarity unto themselves and for a big Iain fan I should think it would be a very nice gift. I do have to admit its a steep price...but deserving of way more than 10 (American keyboard....can't put your currency notation in!)

Just hold the alt key down and type 0163. £Or simply type quid or LSD ;D Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: hendo (Dave) on January 25, 2013, 09:28:20 PM Some 2013 UK dates with Egbert Derix March 2013 13th. Goldmark Gallery in Uppingham it is. It is a working art gallery and they only have about a 50 people audience. We've seen RT, McTell and June Tabor there. Fabulous intimate gigs. Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: davidmjs on January 25, 2013, 09:40:32 PM Thanks David. Goldmark Gallery in Uppingham it is. Great venue, and great taste in art as well...so be careful if you carry your credit card with you...they put on a lot of pottery shows from people like Svend Bayer, Nic Collins, Lisa Hammond et al who I love. I used to live just down the road in Empingham. Happy days! Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: AdrianW on January 29, 2013, 02:46:11 AM Quote 17th. House concert. Litchfield. Door. w/Egbert Derix Tickets. davidaconnolly@tiscali.co.uk for me. Tickets are £12. Venue is actually a hall with a bar. Informative PDF (I hope with address and start time) is being produced. Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: johnbev on February 25, 2013, 09:43:07 AM Please note we have moved the Bacup football club date to the following Thursday - so now on March 21st.
Thanks John Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: koho (Koen) on February 27, 2013, 08:51:56 PM Iain was magnificent last Sunday in a double bill with Dutch singer Linde Nijland in a church in an outpost called Sappemeer the northeast of the Netherlands. I had not seen him in a while now, but I seemed to detect an extra 'deepening' in his vocal delivery, the advancing years don't have a negative effect on his voice, that's for sure.
High point for me was Linde and Iain duetting on If You Saw Thro' My Eyes. Goosebumps! On a related note, here's an actual videoclip I missed of Iain with the Searing Quartet - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcZKKGA91Ok&feature=share&list=PL16A7555864376D5E ... cool. Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: David VB on February 28, 2013, 08:46:32 PM According to the IM website the 24 March date originally planned for an Oxford venue is now in Otley! They may be close alphabetically but geographically.... Does anyone know if anything is planned for the Oxford area?
Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: johnbev on March 20, 2013, 11:08:42 PM Bacup show cancelled
Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: AdrianW on March 21, 2013, 01:26:27 AM Quote 17th. House concert. Litchfield. Door. w/Egbert Derix I really enjoyed that. A pity so few others went. I suspect the audience was much the same size as for the promoter's house concerts, with the added cost of hall hire. Ian mentioned that he had one forthcoming gig, and was then going to be writing another CD with Egbert. Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: davidmjs on March 21, 2013, 06:37:55 AM It's very difficult to attract an audience without any advertising. There was NO publicity in Bacup.
Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: johnbev on April 16, 2013, 03:05:02 PM Hi Everybody
Just to let you know we have just booked Al Stewart to play the Victoria Theatre in Halifax West Yorkshire on Saturday October 26th and Iain Matthews will be doing the support for the evening. Mark Griffiths who was in Southern Comfort with Iain will also be playing. I wonder how many people saw Iain open for Al on the 1991 tour! Time flies. Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: Will S on April 16, 2013, 03:12:50 PM Thanks johnbev. Do you know if Iain will be supporting Al Stewart on all his UK dates? I have tickets to Al's Basingstoke concert, and having Iain Matthews there too would be the icing on the cake!
Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: johnbev on April 16, 2013, 03:55:29 PM Sorry it is only the Halifax Show - but Iain is arranging a solo tour around October anyway. However only Whitstable and the Al show so far confirmed. There will be a new Iain Matthews solo album out this year.
It would have been wonderful to revive that 1991 tour when Iain opened for Al on about 20 dates. But at least I managed to get him on One! John Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: DaviD J (was geriatrix) on April 16, 2013, 08:34:15 PM Yes, saw the Iain 'n' Al show at The Beck in Hayes. Was it that long ago?!!
Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: johnbev on April 16, 2013, 08:40:43 PM Yep 22 years - hard to believe!
Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: David VB on April 17, 2013, 06:50:39 PM Saw the show at Preston Guildhall. Very poor audience so we all gathered in the front rows for a more intimate evening. Al S was having a tough time with hearing through his monitors though from where I was sitting it was fine. He described it as being like Spinal Tap and cut his set short (saw the set list and he missed out, I think, Nostradamus). Iain persuaded him back on for an encore and they sang MOTL. He might not have enjoyed the evening but I certainly did.
Title: Re: Iain Matthews 2013 Post by: johnbev on April 17, 2013, 07:45:46 PM Iain and I were only talking about that last week. It was like interferance from taxis breaking through the PA and Al was well unhappy.
It was a Sunday night and Preston was deserted - but I think they had too many shows in the north-west on that tour. They played Colne, Preston and Oldham as well as Leeds. The London gig was the Mean Fiddler and they finished with MOTL at almost every show. Delighted I've got them back together in Halifax, Iain is planning a solo UK tour to coincide. Al has about ten dates including full band show at Albert Hall. |
