Title: Jerry Donohue question Post by: Jim on March 07, 2013, 04:05:55 PM According to some on the FC list, JD played Woodstock(the one in upstate New York not the one in Oxfordshire).
Does anyone know who he played with? i must admit i never knew, still you live and learn. Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: RobertD on March 07, 2013, 04:33:31 PM Never heard that before and wondering if someone got confused with Bruce Rowland...who did actually play at Woodstock with Joe Cocker?
Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: Chris on March 07, 2013, 04:36:19 PM I've just tweeted him and asked....
Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: davidmjs on March 07, 2013, 05:19:38 PM I've certainly never heard that if it is true - Bruce was definitely always the answer to 'Which member of FC played the Woodstock Festival?' questions when I were a lad... :)
Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: RobertD on March 07, 2013, 05:41:35 PM Only way I could see it is if he appeared with one of the bands I have no idea who was in them. Skipping the well known bands, there were the following-Sweetwater, Bert Sommer, Tim Hardin, Melanie, Quill, John Sebastian, Keef Hartley Band. Now a few of those I have heard of, but I have certainly never seen any of them on Jerry's resume, unless he jammed with someone, or might it be possible he was in Incredible Strings Band circle at that point by association and joined them on stage?
Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: Brendan on March 07, 2013, 06:22:36 PM Jerry is listed as playing with Keef Hartley, but I don't know if it was in the Woodstock line-up.
Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: davidmjs on March 07, 2013, 06:35:08 PM He's not on any of the KHB albums, but that doesn't mean anything of course.
He wasn't previously known as Swami Satchidananda, was he? :) http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages//music0_woodstock.html Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: RobertD on March 07, 2013, 06:53:50 PM He's not on any of the KHB albums, but that doesn't mean anything of course. I'm off to you tube it now :) line up as above but no Neil Hubbard Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: davidmjs on March 07, 2013, 08:14:07 PM Never heard that before and wondering if someone got confused with Bruce Rowland...who did actually play at Woodstock with Joe Cocker? grease band, Henry Mc Culloch(sp?), Bruce R, Chris Stainton, Alan Spenner, Neil Hubbard, would be my best guess without looking at the video! Having said all that, knowledge is power so it's all good to know :) Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: Brendan on March 07, 2013, 08:18:56 PM He's not on any of the KHB albums, but that doesn't mean anything of course. I was trying to say that Bruce had played at Woodstock for sure with the Grease Band. I don't remember the exact quote but on the Cropredy Box Ashley in his intro for Bruce made a comment about some of the substances from Woodstock still being in Bruce's beard! ;) Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: Jim on March 08, 2013, 11:34:58 AM ok. so, still no sign of JD up to his oxters in mud and worse entertaining the great unwashed at Max Yasgurs place then?

Sorry Jim, the question running through my head is. 'why the hell does it matter?' it doesn't matter a jot. The FC board had a remark about Alvin Lee's death and someone looking for a FC connection(they always look for FC connections ::) ) remarked that the only thing they could think of was that both him(Alvin) and JD played at Woodstock, which was news to me as i would have thought that it would have been fairly common knowledge and i was under the impression that the only FC bod at Max's was Bruce Rowland. Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: Chris on May 02, 2013, 11:03:19 AM I have a definitive answer - via Twitter from the good man himself!
No, he wasn't. Also, news thatr he and his daughter Kristina are going touring as a duo - to include dates in the UK. Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: John From Austin on May 03, 2013, 08:01:12 PM Thanks to Bruce Rowland, every member of FC past and present is no more than 2 degrees of Woodstock.
Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: arie on May 19, 2013, 11:51:10 PM Who is Jerry Donohue anyway?
Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: Andy on May 20, 2013, 12:34:04 AM Jerry Donahue – Fairport guitarist 1972–1975
Assuming you weren't just being sarcastic about the misspelling. Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: Jim on May 20, 2013, 12:37:30 AM the bloke at ellis island probably wrote his great granda's name wrong, thats why most american names are spelt wrongly
Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: arie on May 20, 2013, 05:03:10 PM Assuming you weren't just being sarcastic about the misspelling. Certainly not, I just wondered if I had missed something as nobody seemed to notice it, for almost 2 pages. So I know who Jerry Donahue is and I know that Ashley is the Guv'nor or Tyger, RT was Henry long, long ago etc. But sometimes there are nicknames on lists that I don't know about. What was that Simon Nicol nickname again? Title: Re: Jerry Donohue question Post by: jude on May 20, 2013, 05:50:47 PM Assuming you weren't just being sarcastic about the misspelling. I sat with TYA on the flight out.. ::) |
